I think your on the same hymn sheet here Rich.
I personally think that we should be responsible for our own actions and safety.
If you start introducing rules and the like it tends to lead to jobsworths and all that crap.
However we have some young guns and old farts like me who perhaps lack the knowledge or don't know who to ask advice from when setting up cars for the track.
So maybe an experienced driver who has done that, been there, and got the tea shirt ( Dave 2 Lanes?)could be the club scrutineer and help if asked.
Also perhaps, we could produce a safety check list?
Either way I think it should be up to the individual if he wishes to use this sort of help or not.
If he doesn't then and the worst happens then, it was at least his choice to do it that way.
Ps its not always your fault.

I Think i would be more usefull at that Donunt Meet(KrispyK-spl?) or when you get the bill for a Broken Gear Box as heart attacks are our biggest worry! as Sandy says" its a club of mostly middle aged blokes"

Always have safety in mind when I putting cars together, most of it is just common sense if such a thing exists. One thing, straight off the top of my head, neutral safety switch. I come across a lot of cars where it doesn't work or it's not even wired up, wait till that one catches you out, especially with a high stall converter. Fix yours now! Got rubber and jubilee clips in your transmission lines? they fail or blow off and dump a ton of oil under your Tyre's, ask Rob Tyrell how great that felt at the top end of the track...

Yep,basic common sense things,especially the bloke who thinks he's a good welder.Some of the cages,ladder bars,springs mounts etc that I've seen over the years.

Blue makes a great point & a good starting point.

If the motor is put together properly , then i don't see a problem , were only talking 130 MPH , most of us have driven these motors on the road at this speed , also came out the factory like this.

I think anything below a 10 sec 1/4 mile safety should be paramount.

my dad used to run the belv into the 9's in jeans and a denim jacket, and 15 year old helmet, until he watched Tokoyo Toy roll at the big end at shakey the other year, for those who didnt know the car it was a super gas car running 9.90's that was a full tube chassis car with a proper cage etc and proper safety gear and the driver got beaten up quite bad as it rolled 3-4 times, straight away my dad went out and bought all the safty gear and changed the cage in the belv, as it could easily have been him, i personally think anyone running into the 12's or quicker should wear a decent helmet, neck brace and even 1 piece flame retardent overalls doesnt need to be a fire suit as a precaution

well i have not, i can honestly say i have never been over 90 mph in any old car,appart from them not feeling safe at high speed on the road the instant ban over 100mph puts me off a little.

Sorry Adam,i have never had i car that will do 130 anyway my Micra will be lucky to make a tun and i could never afford to go over 60 in my Duster thanks to the 3.91 so i dont know how people manage with 4.56 etc on the roads?
