Heres A Strange One....

Post by Scooby »

On a visit to my local Budgens I parked the car (98 Vectra) opposite the store as I walked from the car I zapped the remote to lock the car and went into the store.
On returning to the car found that I hadn't locked it with the remote key phob. Strange maybe I'm loosing it and forgot.

So next time I am down there again (Budgens) I leave the car in roughly in the same spot, zap the remote and wait for the car to flash and lock. Nope didn't happen strange 3 attempts later nothing. So I think maybe the batteries getting low in the key phob.

At home away from the store the key phob works. Me now scratching my head. ??
Then the wife says to me the same thing happened to her when she went to the shop, car didn't lock. Umm time to check all.
At home....
Did, car locked fine checked key phob even from a great distance to much amusement from my neighbour who thinks I've lost the plot !!!Me ducking and diving all over the place !!!!

Anyway this has happened over a couple of months. So I go round to the back of the store key phob works fine.
Now I am confused.
But then an article appears in my local paper from a guy who had to have his car towed away by the AA because his BMW had been totally immobilised and wouldn't start. Since then various local persons have complained of the same thing.
Well a local electronics repair guy looked into it this appears the answer ( although the local fire services disagree !!)
Behind the back of this Budgens store is a huge radio reception mask that puts and and receives thousands of powerful ultrasonic signals every day. Now it appears that this mask blocks off the receivership to and from a source that's sending and receiving signals ( I hope that makes sense !!)
So for now that appears to be the answer so don't park in front of this store because the mask will disconnect you.

I've had the same with the JEEP in the Bingo Car Park in Hornchurch. Took ages to unlock a couple of times, fine everywhere else. (It's the nearest car park to MaccyD's ;) )

Local Teco's did it to my old Scooby too. I was told by the dealer that it was something to do with the automatic doors in the shop. Don't know if I buy that... :?

It is the automatic doors in these places; work on a similar rf. I once had an early generation speed camera detector that went off whenever I got near a BP petrol station .... any BP petrol station anywhere in the country. :)

My ex had a similar problem with her Laguna three times. It seemed it was a problem with the system causing it to be affected by electromagnetic radiation when parked in the vicinity of pylons. In each case the memory code was erased from the key, requiring it to be re-programmed and aligned with the receiver in the car. A real pain, and expensive to rectify.

Try wearing an armadillo hat. It seemed to work for Shreeve

There is a place in North yorkshire where people have problems with cars and bikes not starting in a certain village (can't remember the name). But it is apparently because of RAF fillingdales where radio signals are sent/recieved and somehow it messes up the electronics on cars and bikes. Seen as the village is on top of hill the only solution is to take your car/bike down to the bottom of the hill where it will usually start!
