Guys, need to replace front pump bush (727) and the same in the tail extension.
Whats the best method and do i have to strip out the front pump and remove tail extension.
Trans is sat on me bench so i have good access
You need to remove both from the trans to do it. Best method is to remove and refit with a hydralic press and the correct size bush driver, the one in the tailshaft can be in there pretty tight. The bushes are pretty thin, so I don't reckon your chances of getting them in straight and undamaged with a hammer and socket. Removing the tailshaft is pretty straight forward, but you need to careful how you take out the front pump if you are not going to strip the transmission. Best method I have found is to take out the valve body, tighten up the front band to hold the drum in place, stand the trans on the output shaft and remove the pump useing a couple of slide hammers in the threaded holes provided. You have to keep this stuff clean, so wash out the bellhousing before you pull the pump. when you reassemble the pump and before you put it back in the case, make sure the rotors turn, it only takes a little bit of grit to jam the thing solid, you can easily do this with a small screwdriver before you fit the new front seal.
Thanks for the specialist info Blue, looks like i maybe ought to farm the job out given that i want to install a Trans go shift kit as well.
That said, does the rear housing simply unbolt to remove or is there something holding it in situ? I undid the bolts but the housing only slightly seperated, so I wasn't sure if something unseen was holding it.
