great hens pic

man I have got this dog thing BAD, I have always LIKED dogs, but never had one of my own, hence happy to dog sit this little staffy pup (who is now nearly fully grown) two or three days a week for a friend for the last few months. I give her loads of fuss she is by my side as i work on cars and comes with me if I go out on a delivery. I teach her loads of good habits and tricks, she is now the model dog, and is so friendly, loving and happy, but something strange started to happen.....

Just recently, when her 'owner' comes to collect her, its as if ... someone is ripping my heart out of my chest, does that sound extreme to you? Seriously, I can't stop thinking about her, wondering what she's doing, wondering if she's ok and not getting too bored being left on her own while her owner goes out to work and I daydream about getting my ears licked again. I didn't see this coming, it just sort of crept up on me and now I feel really anxious and lonely whenever I don't have her around me. What the hell do I do? (I already asked him if he would sell her LOL) Do I get a dog and would I ever love it as much as I love this dog? She's a lot to live up to. Should I go cold turkey and try to not see her anymore, I'm so confused. Experienced dog people to reply or pm please!

Get a dog!!

We had a Golden Retriever when I was a lad- spent everday with her from when I was 10- 21 (when she died)

Im now 41  - and just last year felt we were able to give a dog the attention etc they need - so we got a Black Lab!

Hard work - specially of you get a pup- but well worth it mate-

Will I know just how you feel mate those Staffs are the best and so faithful especially when they sit on yer foot.
I would have one in a flash if the missus was not so keen on the moggies.
We lost one this week dodgy heart she was with us fifteen years and it just breaks your heart.
I keep looking round where she used to sit or lay and think I see her no more pets I cant take the heartache.

Definately get your own dog Will. Staffs are great little dogs, a mate of mine breeds them and does the Crufts thing with them. He wouldn't have any other breed.

Very loyal little tykes too.

Wil,

the sort of anxiety you are feeling is not uncommon in this situation. Wondering what the dog is getting up to when you are apart, is she enjoying someone other than you, are they better than you. What you have to realise is that she was in a relationship before you came along and you are the third party - it was never going to work out long term. What you need to do is put her out of your mind and move on, you will find something else. She has gone back home to her owner this was always going to happen. You need to find someone who is unattached that you can build a relationship with, long term.

Don't worry, there are plenty of fine looking female dogs out there. Try Essex, I hear they are plentifull up there.

If you find yourself getting anxious and you dontknow what to do try either of the following helplines:

'She leaves my bed for another' - 0898-1233-223443

Onanism after the breakup of a relationship, and you: 0898-886-4485-0

Oh,

and get a dog. I love mine. He is the greatest little mate.

You might want to wait till Chrimbo though. Get some good deals then. Plus if you dont want it you can give it away in the new year.

(JOKE). Get a dog mate. Just remember they are a full time commitment. (bit like a wife except they don't answer back.)

(ANOTHER JOKE)

Our rats have gone (no problem), the snake has gone (no problem), next up we have a possibly diabetic Mr Pink to rehome. Hemi is going to Turnip. I'll miss the cats, esp Hemi as he's been here nearly 10 yrs. Spencer has been here 2 1/2, reckon it's going to be much harder than I am thinking when he goes to his new owners. Reckon it will break Carole and George's hearts more than mine as I'm a cat person. But it's that or £2500 on a flight for him, caged, away from anyone, then quarantine, then the heat and possible snake bites or Cane Toad licking (death). Much better for Spencer to stay here...... Australian Cattle Dog here I come :thumbright:

When our dog Lizzie died in 2006 we didn't think we could replace her.

But we have had Billy for over a year now and I am glad we got him. In some ways he is not as good as Lizzie. Not as intelligent, not as good looking, will not go in water, not as good at finding things I have hidden etc.

But Billy is better in other ways. More skilled it physical skills like catching, better eyesight, easier to train, not a fussy eater, funny to look at so makes me laugh all the time, and he follows me around everywhere I go. He is at my side constantly.

I am really glad we got him.

But every dog is different. I have been lucky with the two dogs I have picked. Take your time if you are going to pick one for yourself. You will have to live together for many years.
