Will's new arrival 1971 Plymouth Fury 383 station wagon

Post by Anonymous »

Posting up a devoted thread to this car which arrived this morning.

Its a 1971 Fury Suburban wagon with 383 engine, power disc brakes, and air conditioning. It has 8 seats (2 pop up from back floor, rear facing) and has a two-way tailgate or whatever you call those things. You can flip it down like a rangerover, or swing it open like a discovery. It has an electric window in it which you can operate from the ash or from the outside using the key.

Car is from Ohio and was imported last summer. Car was complete then but the new owner in Lancashire started to take it apart to restore it, hence all the trim is off.

Car unfortunately is far worse than it looks rust-wise and may be beyond saving :( Which is probably why it got abandoned by them. The worst area being the chassis-to-body mounts under the front floor.

But the good news is, the car is totally stock and has fender tags, build sheet etc.

It has a really sweet sounding 383 and the trans seems to work too. Even has a newish looking Holley carb on it.

It has an 8 3/4 suregrip rear end.

Has those 15 inch 'cop' steelies and the tyres are nearly new.

Has air conditioning (one bit of it is missing by looks of it )

Radiator has just been done and it's antifreezed up etc.

Seats and steering wheel are in good condition.

Other points of interest are the receiver hitch, and some kind of fancy electric trailor braking system.

Its one of those 'looks better in the pics' cars , the shiny paint hides some horrors. I would not be exaggerating when I say you could get in and out of the car via the hole in the rear floor.

The chassis (k frame) has broken out of the floor and has been bodged back in with big washers to hold the car together. Eeeek!

If I do have to break her, I've got two people interested in the back axle so far. and also the front seats, a window, and some other bits.. any offers on the 383+727? I need to decide what do do with this thing.

I haven't seen that particular grille before. The Sport Furys had a flush grille with hidden headlights.
I didn't realise the "normal" 71 Fury had such a different grille.

If you break it up, I would be interested in the shell!!! dont need any runnin gear or trim or glass etc, will go well with Transit axel and a 2.8 v6!

If anyone else has anything like that let me know!!

Fury is worth doing if it doesn't need any major expenditure like lower front swivels. Some interesting rust but, nothing that can't be fixed with a bit of time. Usual footwells, rear 1/4's and round the screen and the K frame mounts under the front floor. Engine is sweet.

Latil has looked at the fender tag and has found out the tow package on this car was factory!

The trailer brake control is the same as this

That would be such a cool tow car it would be a real shame to break it :(
However, I know sometimes things are just too far gone to be worth saving (unless they have a Hemi in them...!).
Hope it can be saved tho!
