How does the kickdown linkage fit?

Post by Anonymous »

Does anyone have a photograph of how the kickdown linkage connects to the throttle linkage on a 440 6-pack? I have loads of pictures of the setup with a manual box but not an auto. Any asistance would be appreciated.

When I sold my last engine which was mated to an auto, I sold it with a 4 speed and gave all the throttle linkage with it. I hope I aint gonna need it back. as he may need a different linkage with the 4-speed

Many thanks

Clive

I Have Dave, but I dont remember seeing that detail you sent.

I am a little worried now. That bracket that is bolted to the inlet manifold whith the throttle cable connected to it and kick down linkage, does that come in the 6-pack installation kit? I gave that part away with my old engine. I thought the guy would need it but he is coupling it to a manual so I dont think he will, I think I need it back :(

Would those linkages be one and the same? i.e. 440 4 barrel fits 440-6?

The whole set up, the throttle cable, the bracket on the manifold and the kickdown linkage is different on a six pack.

You can get away with the 4bbl throttle cable.

You can modify the kick down levers.

But you need the bracket that bolts to the manifold.

You see that photo of my linkage above? See that thich one inch sleeve on the kickdown lever right of photo? I have a sleeve on the vertical lever down the back of the engine too.

I had to shorten one lever and lengthen the other. Can't remember which way around.

Well I have the Six Pack installation kit on its way over from the US. This includes all the fitting harware, including that bracket, the throttle cable, all linkages but the bit that worries me is the bit that the kick down linkage connects onto. I think the best thing to do is wait till it gets here with me new carbs, build what I can and fathom out the rest when I see whats missing.

Thanks Dave, helpful information as usual :) :D

Do you mean the bit that swivels between the carb lever and the vertical lever?

I have a feeling I had to use the one from my 4bbl as it didn't come with the bracket I bought from YO. I didn't get the installation kit though. I was too tight.

I have the verticle rod with the socket, but I am concerned about the rod with the ball on it that snaps into the vertical rod.

I will have to study the installation kit to see if there is something in it to do the job. If not, I may need my old arrangement back so its begging time for me.

Still not sure what you mean Clive? :? The vertical rod has a thread on the end and the socket bit that adjusts its length screws on the end. Also note how far back and low the manifold bracket is compaired to a 4bbl version. This is also why the throttle cable is shorter.

THATS THE BIT DAVE  First photo of the three you recently sent. That bracket with the pivoting part on it bolted to the rear of the manifold. I am not sure if that bracket assembly comes in the kit. There are a lot of brackets in the kit but from The (poor) photos I have seen of the kit, I am not sure if the pivoting part with the ball on that snaps into the kickdown linkage is included. I am confusing myself now.

I need to have a nap cos my head hurts. I have only just got to office as well.  :(

That is the bit I had to keep from my 4bbl set-up. I think the instalation kit only gives you the bits that are different to the 4bbl so you will need this part back.

Before I go begging Dave, that part wouldnt be required if you were running a 440 with 4-speed would it, because there is obviously no kickdown linkage. Therefore, the guy I sold it to will have no need for it at all??

Thanks for your help on this, it is appreciated mate
