DVLA Information Wanted!

Post by Anonymous »

Hi
Having not had contact with my father for many years, I have recently received news that he has pass away. As next of Kin I have inherited his 1980 Ford Granada 2.8GL, poor condition as it has been stored in a lock up garage for about 15years.
It has an interesting registration number which I would either like to keep or sell; - I have the log book!
The car has pasts it's best and so needs to be disposed of, whilst I retain ownership of the registration. I have about a month to sort this out, due to the garage being owned by the council.
I'm unsure of what the proceedure is with the DVLA. Any help or advise would be appreciated
Cheers
Mitch

Luckily, we have a couple of experienced motor dealers on the site (when they are not getting wound up by all and sundry!) who should be able to help on that one.

But I believe you need to have the vehicle registered in your name to transfer the plate...not sure whether r not it has to be MOT'd.

Sorry to hear about your dad.

The car has to have a current MoT to either put the No. on a retention certificate or transfer it to another vehicle.

As Said above really, car has to be mot`d and if it has`nt been taxed in the last 12 months it will need taxing before transfer/retention

All info/retention form here : http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/forms/v778x1.pdf

hope this helps :thumbright:
