Agreed value insurance advice

Post by Dave999 »

Need a bit of help

My car when purchased was £4000 and some would say that was £5000 too much :)

Its an Aussie RT charger (base model VH RT) aussie RTs came in base model, Street RT (VH RT E37/E48) and race RT (VH RT E38/E49)

1300 all in, no more no less of which the greater majority were like mine

mine is a 1 of 5 due to its Odd (but not working) Aircon option

now its not a concourse car its probably considerd good condition, no rust. everything apart from aircon works. but inerior is worn.

in the UK its worth £4000 max always will be (its a fat Bananarama! capri with an allegro grill)

hence its currently insured agreed value at £7000 the idea being if i had to spend another £4000 in Oz to get a replacement i still have enough to ship it back to my front door. no issues.

Now my insurance renewal is up

£160 with Fj for £7000 agreed.

however.

if i go and check out my car value on valuation sites similar to autotrader in Australia its now worth according to them quite a bit more.... with the wind in the right direction i could have.... well..... me pick of anything up in the for sale section today.

so if i need to get a valuation done anyone in the UK is just going to say £4000 cos thats what its worth if i stick it in the thames valley trader today.

if i ship it to Oz then things change

now is it my right to value it at what it would cost to replace given that the Aussies have gone bonkers for this car, but its value over here is still really only the same as it was 5 years ago?

do I phone up Tony O and tell him what i think its worth or will i have to take it to him.

Mmm

or do i just go to redbook australia put $25 in their direction and get a certificate.

I've never had a car worth anything more than £4000 and they are only worth what someone will pay....stuck really

i guess what i'm saying is nobody apart for the few who have good taste shows an aussie charger any love in the UK does that mess with my ability to get it valued properly.

What you have to watch with "agreed value" is that sometimes they say "agreed" but if the car is written off they will only give you what they themselves deem to be the current market value.

Make sure you get in writing that if the car was written off you will get the value you agree on.

As for the actual amount. You need to value it at replacement value. Not what you might sell it for in the UK.

Stick it on Aussie ebay, let them have it back. Buy something non allegro/capri looking and put the change in the bank.

I was about to say that, but Dave beat me to it.

To source a car similar to yours and get it here would cost what, 12 large?

The insurance company will look at what Aussie Chargers have been selling for over here and they are going to go straight into "not on your nelly" mode.

One thing people tend to forget is that Insurance companies are no longer run by gentlemen in bowler hats and sound morals.

I'm sorry to say the majority of them are run by gangsters intent on making money, not looking after the customer...their sole aim is not to pay out, if they have the faintest hint of getting away with it.

That not only goes for you, the customer, but they treat the bodyshops just as badly.

I would get an agreed value and a salvage buy back option with a valuation too if you can...but you will still have to fight tooth and nail, if the car is damaged beyond economical repair.

in dollars

http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic will convert your $$ to ££

+ shipping in £££

I never looked at it as being worth diddly....hence additions of new carb/inlet. Plans for daft rear end and a computer controled ignition

did a bit of research this morning re value and am in disarray.

if i sell it, its gone no replacing that there are not enough to go round
if i keep it i'll knack it eventually

Mr clumsy can't go into the garage anymore and mess with his car

I know how you feel. The problem with these figures is it also means you pay a higher premium.
Then you got to consider that everything you do to make the car "better" is dragging the value down.

It was no problem when MoPars were the cheap cars no-one wanted.

well i'm sorely tempted. thing is i still own just about everything i've ever bought i don't let go that easy.

still mourn the day i flogged me VW van

it went for the 4000k i bought this for and then jamie oliver got one and they were the new sliced loaf. short changed by about 8k in the space of 3 months.

i'm a car dealers dream sell too low and buy the first thing i see...

NNNnnnnn

and a road runner don't fit the garage....i'd have to take out the wall and steps down into the lounge and use the bumper is the middle step. mrs aint going to want a chunk of car sticking out into the back of the setee.

Heck  What I already said. Things like Jeffs Dart for £3K or Kevs taxi+engine and box. Enough to buy a car,do things to it and still put money in the bank.
You'll be scared to drive it soon, the way those prices are going.
