Steering Column Joint Pin removal

Post by witorque »

I wish to remove the pin within the steering lower joint -not the roll pin that holds it to the steering box, which was easy. I aim to strip the column completely so the upper alloy casings can be bead blasted and re painted, but this pin needs to be removed to allow the upper column casing tubes to be pulled off the shaft.
I put some pressure on this pin in a 6" vice with a tubular collar over one end of the pin, hoping the pin would push out, but it didn't budge....
Before I take the column to a 40 ton press and risk damaging the shaft or pin, is removal of this pin feasible? Or are there 2 pins going into blind holes from either side?
This is a on a '72 Challenger.

It's a single pin and you can get it out, it's just in there bleedin' tight....
