Sandy`s spot on with his ramble, luckily he and I have been around the scene long enough to remember the real good times...e still have good times at shows but numbers are droping and that does have an effect on the whole feel of a show..
I`ll still be there though.. :thumbright:
Nice comfy caravan, fridge full of cold beer and go with a few mates.............. still a good recipie in my book.. 8-) Do it while we still can!!!!!!!!!!

Bloody Hell
Talk about Doom n Gloom! - I come on here to get away from hearing about how the country is going into a spiralling decline and that the end is nigh!

Yes its expensive to get to a show etc in a juicy motor- but really I think for most of us thats 3-5 events a years and thats if the weathers promising- Like Ivor says all hobbies are expensive but if it is your passion then most people will find a way- Yes shows will get smaller- I dont think thats a bad thing though - I rememer the old days at Billing and Newark etc- huge amount of cars - almost too many to get round !

Maybe smaller regional shows are the way to go- more informal, less pressure to SEE everything- more time to chat etc

Im not even sure I would be tempted to visit something billed as THE BIGGEST AMERICAN CAR SHOW IN THE UK- just comes across as one organisation trying to out do the other?

Sandy is dead right to say the Mopar Nat's needs other brands. Mopars alone are not enough. This year is the 15th Mopar Nat's and right from the beginning we have encouraged all other American cars to the event. The idea was never for it to be Mopar only.

I think everyone will agree the Nat's is a better event for all American cars welcome. I just wish some of the other brands would include the Nat's in their annual calendar.

What i kike about our Nat's is that people tell me it is the best event of the year and if they don't go to any other event, they will be at the Nat's.

Who'd have thought it 15 years ago?

Apart from the daft burnout comp, the Nats format with it's relaxed atmosphere and friendly approach is by far the best show out there. No one has to feel under pressure to do anything if they choose. Long may it continue. :thumbright:

WoW! Billing stopping the shows? Well that has been on the cards for a few years now. I bet after a few years they start them again. Hopefully the shows will have found new venues, and will tell them to stuff it!

Cost of fuel! Good side is the big expensive stuff will no doubt drop in price, and the mid range stuff will be very affordable again.. "Good Times"

Clubs? I am sure this one will stick together, and that is soley down to this message board in my opinion. Perhaps some of the other clubs will fall by the wayside, always have, always will. Snobbery? I guess there will always be a bit somewhere. Not so much here as on the MOCGB! I joined them when I bought my fist ever American car.... Went to the meet, I was gutted by their comments, so never re-joined.

Anyway, we all know we are in for bad times ahead. but what can you do? I am just buying another Mopar :D :D So, proves I am stupid!
I am keeping this Mopar....... SOLD!

Snobbery????? Anyone who buys a CAR and uses it to look down on others and theirs, is an ass hole. Money can buy you many things, but it can't buy true freinds, or a personality OR a bigger penis for that matter.

I disagree with the last comment Clive. Ever since I bought the Coronet, my wife insisted I looked like a big P!

I agree with Jeff, disagreeing with your last comment above Clivey. Money can buy you a bigger one, well, it can pay for the extension op apparently :D

We filled up last Wed before our MMA meet (10 mile round trip?), and were back near empty by the time we got home from Billing.
So that's about £55 for gas, but there's 2 of us to share the cost :)

Dont envy Adam's fuel bill for the day, judging by the way he was driving from Toddington to Billing, very entertaining, but :help:

But I thought the entry was reasonable, nay, a bargain, at £10 for the car full (2 adults & 1 child). We were expecting £10 per adult at least.
And a mate of ours we met up there, who arrived about 12noon was let in for nothing  Dunno if that was right?

Bit slap-dash on the gate, if you ask me :thumbright:

Well Sandy has some good points, but i dont agree with everything, that looks very well like the case in Scotland :( but here in the North West things are great 8-) we have the Nags Head Cruise and the Preston cruise to name just a few and the Nags especialy is very big now  i bet it gets a bigger turn out than any other cruise in the UK?
And we have new Vipers and Mustangs parked next to cheaper cars right down to the guy with the £500 Cortina and i can honestly say i have not seen any snobery,i have spoke to guys with the New Viper just as easy as the guy with the rusty old Cbody

One thing i will say is some people in the hobby are blinkered and ignorant! just interested in there own make, but im guilty of that to a degree as i have no interest whatsoever in English classics for example, but i will try and pretend to be interested rather than be rude :D

I have no interest in a show like Billing, its more to do with the time it takes for me to travel, and i find them sort of shows boring, and i bet i have seen 90% of the cars anyway :D so no need for me to go every year and see the same things again.

Im more into my local cruises because there FREE and they welcome ANY make, and there are NO PRIZES so NO ARGUING or Polotics etc... its more about driving there having a jar and a chat and then driving home again, all in the space of an evening.

The Nats is great because there is plenty to do and see and it has the spirit that the cars are meant to be driven! 8-) not parked up on grass in a caravan park with Star Spangled Banners draped all over them and Elvis cushions etc and people wearing Silly hats  Long live the Nats 8-) ...mind you there are a few people with silly hats at the Nats it pains me to say :D
