Back up light

Post by Jules »

Stupid question, but where on earth is the back-up light switch on a 68 Charger?

I've just changed the box over the weekend, and it had it's original box in it from 68, and the only switch / terminal I could find was the inhibitor switch for Park / Neutral starting. (single round washer type connector)

I've put in a later box that was sat in the car when I got it, and this has a 3 prong switch in it. Again, 1 is for the inhibitor switch ( middle 1 I think ), and the other 2 look as though they are for the back up lights, but looking at a few wiring diagrams, they've confused the hell out of me

Is the switch in the box itself? (coz 1 of the diagrams I'm studying says "Back-up light switch (syncromesh)" ) In which case, I assume it's just feeding the switch with a live, yes?

In which case, where is the switch for the single terminal connector?

This little bugger has me stumped at the momnent.

Any help would be appreciated. ........ Blue?? :thumbright:

TIA

Jules.

From memory the middle contact on the tree prong switch is the start safety switch that runs to the starter relay.

The outer two are for the reverse light I think.

I just figured all this out a few weeks ago and have forgotten already. :?

The 68 has the reverse switch on the lower part of coloum , the inhibitor switch having only one prong , converted mine to the 3 prong type switch & extended the wires onto the bulkhead connector & into the inhibitor switch. This is for the 3 on tree.

Centre prong is the neutral/park terminal , outer ones are live & switch live for reverse lamps.

Lower part of the column...... hmmmm I must admit I did have a hunch on that but haven't had a chance to get out there since saturday's swap.
Wires must be off of it, or switch missing.
I'll go a hunting tomorrow :thumbright:

Cheers for the info guys..
