Wiper motor not parking...help!

I was just going to run the wipers at one speed, as that was all I was getting and thought, cobblers, let's sort this out properly so I pulled the wiper motor for bench testing and now I don't know how the lid goes back on.

What a complete numpty, I should have peeped inside before taking it off.

Anyway, the points were jammed open, as you can see, so I presume they should be closed, but where does that tab in the lid go? does it slot into the C shaped metal bit on the twirly thing? Or does it go to the left (anti clock) or to the right?

I can't believe I can't get this sorted, I wouldn't blame Kev if he came round and gave me a slap...with one his Eddy heads probably, Mister Posh now isn't he?

By the way Terry the tab thing on the rivet moves backwards and forwards using the rivet as a pivot...so what do you think now!

Ivor I did exactly the same thing with mine. Got it going no problem though. Just put the lid back on. The tab will find its own place if I remember right.

You know by now you should check out my board for these answers....

Not sure if the "F" should be an "E" or not?

I have a set of test instructions on there somewhere from the 1970 workshop manual. If you cannot find them or do not have a manual let me know and I will post the tests here.

Just found the tests so you can check it without fitting it to the car.

Pull the plug from the bulkhead connector. Connect a jumper wire from the green terminal in the connector plug to ground.
Connect a second jumper from the battery +ve to the brown and red terminals. The motor should run continuously.

Disconnect the leads.

Connect jumper wire from green to brown. Connect red to ground.
Connect third jumper wire from battery +ve to the blue terminal.
The wipers should now park.

Thanks Dave, I'll try just putting the lid on, but when I did that last night and ran the motor (just the high speed mode) I heard a twang and opened the lid to find the points had been sprung open and jammed.

Ahaah! I've managed to get hold of the original dealer service bulletin, it even has diagrams for us daft people...it actually shows what postion everything should be when the lid goes on, so I think you got lucky there Dave!

I got lucky twice then because a few years later i did it again when the insulation fell off the wires.
Having decided I didn't need to make notes because i had done it before and looking at it it was "obvious" i stripped the whole motor apart to replace the wires.

Came to put it back together again and I was like "why the hell didn't I make any notes!"?

i'm not gonna even read the techy stuff you guys posted here,

if you've already sorted it then i retract this !

but

anyone who's owned just about any one of my old chryslers will find an extra earth wire on the back of the casing/motor, to a suitabl earth, i spent hours on the first one i had trouble with, pulled apart, spent an hour trying to get it back together again, refitted, no better. ran an earth wire direct from casing to neg on the battery and it worked 100% ! i've have several go 'wrong' in the past, and an earth has fixed it each time !!
