Yet again, like the Nats Prize Draw, this is another member's suggestion, this time it's from our old mate Guy and it's a cracker!
It's for the benefit of both MMA racers and restoration enthusiasts, so it's applicable to any event where there is a commentator trying to describe cars either on the track or in a parade or show.
At Gary's Picnic a few weeks ago, the commentator at Shakey mentioned on a couple of occasions that he had no details of a particular car, yet we had a strong turn out of MMA members there and we knew just about everything anyone would want to know about them, that's what inspired Guy.
The idea is to issue an MMA number, like a race number that remains with the car in much the same way as the outlaw guys have a series of numbers on their rear or side screen, which can be seen by the commentators/organisers.
This is nothing to do with the numbers issued at the event, but a permanent number say vinyled to the inside of the rear screen so they are visible to the commentator.
This number would correspond with a set of details we as the MMA would supply (Guy has even offered to help with the database on this and Matt has the support of the MMA database of course) to the commentator or organiser so they can say, this car belongs to Mopar Muscle Association Member Fred Smith, it is a 1968 Hemi Road Runner in it's original B3 blue metallic etc, and in the case of race cars might have a mention of recent mods or ETs.
This would be a great help to the commentators (tell me and Clivey about that one!) and will not only present the MMA as professional, but will be excellent publicity for the MMA at all types of event.
The simple details we would be after are as follows:
Make.
Model.
Year.
Colour.
engine size.
Name of owner.
Interesting bit of history or recent mods/ets on race cars.
What we would ask you to do is if you are attending any events in the coming year to post your details here and between us, we will put together a simple crib sheet for the event organisers.
You can always update your details in the future and we will do the same.
It's got be good for you and the club hasn't it? Come on guys and gals it'll only take a few minutes.
Gavin, you can take a back seat on this one mate!:D
...and so will I
