 would 320 feet make that much of a difference :?
I know that may sound dull but would it :-k :!:

With the change, fans will still be able to enjoy the sights, sounds and thrill of NHRA nitro racing with speeds around 300 mph and quick elapsed times to 1,000 feet.

 I still don't get why 1000 foot would make any difference to 1320 foot or 1/4 mile in what way will 320 feet make that much difference :? Bar fore messing every thing up. A quarter mile is 1320 feet not wanting to be stupid but at 250 mile a hour + 320 foot is NO stopping time really is it, so having 320 foot more is better than not having it but it is still a drop in the big pond. OIMA

It doesn't matter how long the strip is if your car turns into a fireball at those speeds. :( A little common sense as to which tracks are allowed to run cars capable of those speeds is needed. If the shutdown area ends abruptly with a concrete wall then only allow the slower classes. Losing 320 feet will make no difference to an out of control car at 300 mph.

I see the meeting at Swedens Mantorp Park meeting on the 24-27th July also intends to reduce racing to 1000ft due to short run off area

Hi Moparfolks,

This was bound to happen once a big name got toasted.

John Force nearly met his maker last year and one of his team wasn't so lucky. RIP>>>
The Funny cars were running 6000hp mototrs in a 3000hp chassis set-ups.
So John went on a one man march to bring safety back into Drag racing.
He's a real nice guy and Ashley is a babe, met her at Pomona, WOW!!!

I think 1000 feet is a compromise as they could quite as easy said 1/8 mile only!!!
A similar accident happened a Vegas with Top Fuel last year, where a car hit the safety nets at 300mph, and destroyed all the nets and uprights.

On a lighter note, why do the Yanks always build a wall at the end of thier dragstrips. You'd think with all that land, they would have a five mile runoff area.
Look what happened to Breadlove at Bonneville, he nearly drowned in a lake after his brakes failed!!!

You just gotta love 'em, Bacca.

It sounds like a gross over-reaction to me. They are doing about 270 after the eighth (660ft) IIRC, racing to 1000 ft is not going to make the difference between life and death at all. The crazy thing is having a wall at all. At most strips there is a decent runoff, then a sand trap and sometimes catch fencing etc.

No-one can relate to 1000ft runs, the times won't make sense and there is nothing to compare them to. The cars have not got significantly faster in the last few years anyway, and they keep slowing them down with rule changes, i.e extra weight last year.

Anyway, sounds like it will be an interim measure.....

1st 60ft is always good, but I also love the top end charge. Especially, if your chasing a car down, assuming you have the GG's that is :D
