Water leak (rainwater)

Post by Rebel »

I have a leak from under the dashboard, water dripping on my foot (just above the main beam switch on the floor)on the way home from the local cruise, I'm guessing that it could be from the windscreen wiper spindle as the windscreen rubber looks ok with no visible damage (perishing or splits etc) any ideas on where else to look?
I realise that as it's rainwater, it could be travelling from one side to the other so it might be on the passenger side, but any ideas of where to look would be appreciated

TIA

The only way to do it Nige is to get on your back under the dashboard and get your arm up there in amongst the wiper linkage and ask a friend to run water over the wiper arms I'm afraid!

If it's the windscreen gasket, that's a little more difficult, because it always looks like it's leaking through the corners, but it doesn't always originate from there.

Good luck!
The pump don’t work coz the vandals took the handles.

plenum chamber rust?

the area that feeds the vent can rust out

a pain to fix

windscreen and dash out job.

water that goes down the way the air goes and comes through the hole

or the seal at the top of the vent box has fallen to bits. top of vent box has to stick u[p into plenum chamber and seal against its underside to stop water and leaves visiting you in the car

vent box out isn't too bad i made a new seal from a DJ's felt slip mat. previous owner had used draught excluder tape which had obvioulsy worked quite well for a long time.

i guess new high density foam seals are available but ain't seen any

Thanks guy's

I'll climb in and see what I can find, if it ever stops raining that is !

Also noticed that the trunk is leaking, I replaced the trunk seal last year which seals very well but the water seems to be getting in roughly level with where the spare wheel sits, I thought it would be the panel between the rear window and trunk lid, but theres no obvious signs of any rust damage. I guess this'll be climb in with a torch, shut the lid and have a mate hose it down as well

Bottom edge of the glass seal is a weak point for rust and leaks.

Great, thanks Dave.

Think I'll hire the trunk out as a paddling pool, during the school summer holidays :D

suppose it's only a couple more things to add to the to do list though
