Kickdown
I am determined to get a working kickdown on this car for the 1st time since I have owned it.Tried to set it up today but have a problem. It seems to hook up to the carb OK and the rod that goes down past the bellhousing is OK,when i get to the last rod(the one that goes into the kickdown arm on the box) it all goes a bit Pete Tong.
If you look at the 1st pic you will see its all conected but you can see where the rod ends up in relation to the arm( about an inch past it)
The 2nd pic shows I have pushed the arm back so the rod fits in BUT the arm is at its fullest travel backwards,so has no travel left.
Do we conclude I have the wrong rod or I am being a plonka??
QUESTION:
Where should the kickdown arm on the box be under:
a)full throtle
b)no throtle
Ivor, how did you get on with your set-up as I know you also have colum shift???

Pics may help here but the arm from the carb does not move untill 3/4 throtle(the 1st 3/4 travel is on the slider so the arm to the box does not move)Hope that makes sense.
The torsion bars will be mint as will the linkages and the scratches on the box will be touched up.This is the first time its been up in the air far enough to reach all those bits...

That may be where you are going wrong then, the slider should be all the way forwards at the carb, you should have a fine spring which acts against it to keep it there, it fits through a hole on the lever at the pivot at the back of the motor and hooks over the throttle pin at the carb, this pulls the rod forwards.
The base set up is to stick a small drill bit through the small holes on the pivot, then adjust the rod at the carb end so it just touches the carb pin, check it gives full throttle set like that and then you can play later if the kick down works right.
Confused now?? maybe Dave will spot this, my scanner is kaput so I can't do a pic for you !

Thanks for the offer Guy but I may be getting some where with my 3 piece jobbie.
More pix to bore you with .I have made adjustments here & there and am nearly happy with it ,but I still want to know where the lever on the box is on a closed throtle, and under full throtle does the lever go all the way back?I know that there may not be too much info like this about, but all I need is for someone who has a working kickdown to have a look at the lever on the box in those 2 conditionsIE;open & closed throtle..
One pic shows the lever being held fully back, another shows it fully forward of its own accord and the other shows where the whole set up puts the lever on a closed throtle...If I get no replies to this then I will assume you have al fallen asleep..
