I've been sitting on this news since the weekend in the hope that it could be resolved as Layson's were scheduled to be at the Nats...there is a copy of the arrest warrant on the for a bodies only site and as Dunc says, it's complete cobblers...though why Dave Layson didn't simply register with Chrysler as an official supplier, keep his head down and carry on with what he was doing beats me...
The pump don’t work coz the vandals took the handles.

That makes some interesting reading, the point about infringing the trademark on stuff that Mopar no longer make.A lot of this stuff is remanufactured with the right marks. There is also a big market for ORIGINAL empty parts boxes. How many new Chinese/Mexican copies are being reboxed into original packing and passed off as New Old Stock? NOS can command whatever price it likes.

Just found this on an Ebay forum.

Correct. Laysons' claim to fame was selling supposed NOS stuff (or licensed reproduction stuff) that nobody else had.
Problem was, he didn't pay Chrysler for use of the trademarked pentastar on the parts, nor the actual original part numbers.
He had an overseas manufacturer make the stuff for him (read:China).

There is a long trail of Chrysler trying to work it out with the guy. He kept saying he'd comply but never did, so after several years, Chrysler swore out the complaint and the cops busted his ass, in broad daylight, at one of the biggest Mopar events of the year (Chryslers @ Carlisle).

Kinda sent a message to the other vendors, I'd imagine.

So,yes,selling repro as NOS.

Well if it was out of the blue then it was over the top, if it was coming to him for a while and he ignored it then he cant complain!!

I wonder if the Police find him as awkward & uncooperative as the rest of us who've tried dealing with his company?

I'm sure they'd go down a storm over here with their wide range of products they could bring, but as a mail order & internet supplier, they're a shambles :banghead:

I think it's quite right that he got nicked if he is guilty. If I had thought up a product and someone was copying it and making money off my idea I would be cross as well. I've travelled a lot around the world and seen loads of countires that completely ignore copyright. It got to the point that I wouldn't risk buying an ipod in Dubai cos the place was full of dodgy copies

Perhaps the only avenue left to Chrysler was to make an example of Laysons. I bet some of the future shows in the US will have less traders there for the foreseeable future.

BUT - armed cops, a bit much for a family car show maybe. Maybe he had a Pentstar badged 9mm below the counter :D

Glad I haven't got anything on order with them unlike quite a few guys in the US. Their eBay store is still up and running mind and no mention on their website (understandibly). Makes you wonder which company will be next.

Does our club have the right to use the Mopar logo???? Admin...speak up

We don't use the Mopar logo Justin, other than it apearing on some T shirts etc. We have our own logo. In any case we don't use any Chrysler branding in a fraudulent manner, we aren't passing anything off as a Chrysler product. Also Chrysler are well aware of the MMA and would definately bring it to our attention if they had an issue, in which case we would comply.

We wouldn't just ignore them which seems to be what has happened here. That seems to be just plain daft.

They are all armed. All the time. Even when on parking ticket duty or directing traffic.
Even the little girl at the desk checking your passport as you pass through customs has a large hand gun.

So I doubt families found it shocking or anything.

Sorry, wasn't a doubting thomas about the club credability/logo rights

should really have said about whether enthusiasts clubs may run foul of over zealous car company lawyers in the future. I'm sure they would take a correct view of things but just meant to highlight things in case we inadvertantly trip up.

Anyone wanna buy 2000 Mopar logo t-shirts all the way from the finest reaches of Schezuan province

I knew last week that there was a good chance he could get his collar felt at the event, this is not the first time I have seen trade stands shut down at these events either. Mopar Performance / Chrysler take a very dim view on unlicensed traders selling parts with their Logo on it............ :Chrysler1:
