I know Dave Layson pretty well. I have dealt with him for a number of years. Laysons are our SPECIAL guests at the MoparEuronats this year. I do not know if they are coming. I was really looking forward to them, as Daves wife Julie is due as well. We have talked about stuff etc and I am sure they will both enjoy a vacation in the UK.
I know a little more about Dave than the average MMA Member, and I can say HE is a real enthusiast, thats where a lot of the problems have occured. He is also outspoken at times about Chrysler, so is Rob Wolf from MCG. MCG is the best damned Mopar Mag in the world Full Stop. ,at one time Chysler tried to close it down.
Please all remember that CHRYSLER threaten the MMA with closure at one time and a pretty rotten letter from their lawyers, folk may recall us printing out an apology, it cost the club a great deal of money which the then committtee paid out of their own pockets!
Please also note that Chrysler in NO WAY whatsoever support the MOPAREURONATS, scandalous in my opinion. Mother Mopar at times is a nasty b................!

I'm sure they'd go down a storm over here with their wide range of products they could bring, but as a mail order & internet supplier, they're a shambles

Would be good to see them at the Nats, but its the only time I'd deal with them ever again.
Could be one of the few times though they actually get some sympathy, I do agree it seems way over the top to do what Chrysler did. Of course I don't know the full background and Chrysler do have to protect their brand........BUT - Chrysler pretty much neglected the Mopar enthusiast for years, MP was (is?) largely poor, overpriced products (with notable exceptions) and the aftermarket enabled the Mopar hobby to survive before it suddenly got all 'fashionable' in recent years. If it weren't for the enthusiasts, and those that supplied them, keeping brand equity in words like "Hemi" where would the Mopar hobby, and even the modern Chrysler, be today.
So, without knowing the details on this one, they should cut a bit of slack to the hand that fed them......

Tony, understand what you say about Chrysler and the way they are alledged to have 'dealt' with small fish in the Mopar world, but that does not confirm or deny whether there has been any wrongdoing on Laysons part.
IF what is alledged is true, then there could well be a misrepresentation of facts (be they negligent or fraudulent) in relation to parts they have sold. The truth of this does not hinge on the acts of Chrysler however unfair they seem. Unfortunately, that is what it will all boil down to
Do you think there is any truth in the allegation?

Hi Moparfolks.
Sad story this indeed!
A good friend of mine in LA, has reproduced rare trim parts for 71 Gtx's, because mother Mopar couldn't be bothered!!!
As soon as he tried selling them to try and recoup his setup costs, they came down on him like a ton of bricks.
He argued the fact that they would never make rare, non profit making repro parts for the resto guys?
To which they agreed, but they said that does not give anyone the right to make copy parts without Mopar licence, and also, they would not give permission anyway!!!
Work that out???
As Big Tony says, the new Generation of Mother Moparians, ain't so nice as we think?
Bacca.
ps, Which one is you Jim? I think you guys must have been seperated at BIRTH???
pps, your secret is safe with me Jimbo??? You sharing a room with four tunnel diggers from Washington State!!! Nuff said methinks?

Some companies like PG Classic have responded to pressure from Chrysler by removing the Chrysler part number and logo from their products.
As far as I can tell all Layson had to do was the same. But he seems to have continued to sell parts with Chrysler markings and by the sound of it in Chrysler boxes too.
There is nothing wrong with making parts to fit cars. As long as they are not marked as the original manufacturer.

If that was their strategy, why didn't they just sign up as licensed distributors and keep their heads down and carry on regardless?

Ivor it really is not that simple, believe me, lets talk at the Nats.
OK latest stuff coming out of Ma Mopars lawyers is this.
If you mis-represent a car, ie clone it, you are on the radar and possibly paid a visit. Mopar is fed up to the back teeth of cars being CLONED.
News is that cars that go through auctions etc badged as RT cars or Hemi cars are open to Mopar sueing the owners/builders. That means if you take a 68 383 Dodge Charger and put a 440 in it and stick R/T badges on it you are liable for prosecution. This is a missrepresntation of the company and vehicle originally produced by Dodge. FACT.
If you own a Plymouth you are Ok, as that company does NOT exist any more.
So folks beware, do not badge up ypur Charger or Challenger non RT cars as originals, you may/will be sued. great guys these Mopar folks. Makes you really proud of the hard work that you have done to keep the brand alive. I have heard that the Ford and GM guys are really good folks. Maybe time to switch brands.

Didn't ford sue someone for selling a calendar with photos of mustangs that he'd taken himself?TonyO wrote: I have heard that the Ford and GM guys are really good folks. Maybe time to switch brands.
dont think theres such a thing as good guys at corporate level....
Surely though that's only applicable if you are fraudulently passing it off/selling it as something it's not. No vehicle manufacturer can sue you for altering your own personal vehicle for your own use surely??? Otherwise we would probably all be liable to being sued. I have a Holley carb in my Challenger rather than the original Carter (at the moment). Therefore by that argument I'd be misrepresenting Dodge as they never manufactured the car to that specification?
If somebody is fraudulently selling a car as an RT and it's not then shouldn't we be thankful Mopar are protecting us as possible victims.
