Mmmm. I would rather buy one I can see for myself though. If it is already at 30 thou and it turns out there is something wrong with it...
Worth thinking about though. Thanks Guy.
As I thought. The place I took my crank have just phoned to say the place they send out to for this work does not do it any more.
I had a feeling it would be the same place I was at yesterday.
BUT they have a guy in South Yorkshire that might be able to do it. However he only picks up once a week so it will be next week before I know if he can do it or not and another week before I get it back fixed or not. Sigh.

I'll agree with what you're saying about trying it and see what happens at no cost to you, i'll also agree with the chances of finding someone who would do that are slim. But what happens if it all goes ok you rebuild the motor and then BOOOM
One other thing i'll add as you didn't bite my head off after my last post
there is another word for a repaired crank "bodged" comes to mind and i don't include regrinding or modifications in the "repaired"
I'll have a small wager with you, if i lose lets call it a donation to your crank fund, i bet that a proper repair to build up that crank will be more money in the long run than balancing another

Dave, been following your posts on this but frustratingly haven't really had anything to add!!
If the South Yorks source doesn't come through, how about spreading the net a bit wider? There might be places in other parts of the country who could do this. I don't know of any but first place I would ask is Bassett Down who do a lot of balancing, esp V8 Yanks - he must have a lot of connections and might know someone. Just a thought, might be worth a call.
If time isn't of the essence we might be able to get your crank passed around the country by the 'MMA network', usually works well!!
At least if you get a price you can do the maths vs. buying another crank

Also....I'm sure you've seen this thread but just in case.....

Worth keeping an eye on. Oversized thrust bearings might work (but doubtful you could get 'em large enough), or maybe a spacer....

dave heres another one to try, it's called northern rebore center, it's at the top of westgate road, i thought this place was long gone but rick swan told me last night it is still doing buisness, the directions are as follows, go up westgate road past the bike shops, and turn left at the lights, go straigt on untill you hit the mini roundabout then turn right.
after the rdbt look left there is a turning just past the shop that is on the corner, go down what looks like a back lane, keep looking on your left for a black door this is where they are, any probs finding it just give me a ring, see ya soon trev
