With the Nat's a distant memory, I thought it's high time I stopped buggering about and got on with it. Started at 2.30, out by 6.00, cold beer at 7, job's a good 'un....

This is the ideal time to try the flexplate on the convertor, the bolt pattern might look equal but it isn't, one hole is offset so mark it now to make your life easier when you drop the motor in.

Dropped the block in today to check that the new pan fits in the chassis. This is a full length Aluminium dragster pan from Charlie's. I had to cut and shut the front to clear the rack, all measured from when the 440 was in. I wanted to be sure I had it right as there's a fair bit more work needed on it yet. It fits perfectly, and doesn't hang down as low as the 440 pan did, yet holds another quart of oil.
