and they are good for air use as well cos after while you will get the urge for a compressor and an air drive
get a set of ring and open ended spanners that includes a 1/2 incher and the samller one on the other end 95% of all mopar bolts and nuts seem to be 1/2 inch and the next smaller (11mm ??)
and get 2 ratchets from halfords
for carb fiddlin
get onto RS (radio spares webisite) and buy Torx Ribe and star bits and a drive (get the kind your carb uses)
buy any old rubbish in small drive short and long imperial sockets £ shop will do
throw away the ratchet and buy one at halfords
the extensions will bend and snap before the socket splits but the £ shop ratchet is just plain dangerous
you will knacker them eventually but sometimes that cheap as chips thin walled socket is the only one that fits and they are good for drving out stuff like bushes in ya vice.
buy any special big size socket seperatly
you do not need a giant set just yet you will only ever use 1 of em and its easier to just buy a chrysler specifc ball joint socket
allen keys (will not have a 7mm in if good quality only 6 6.5 and 8 ford or someone own that patent) bad quality will not many fords in china)
imperial are hard to find but you will need em if you want to take any knobs off ya dash if you can't find get cheap metric or a screw driver bit set and file em down as and when
a universal 3 arm puller set smill medium and big for about 7 quid
and a balancer puller set a bit more
machine mart do em both for not much
balljoint splitter. do not get a pickle fork and do not get the cylindrical big bolt one. buy the best you can fork and beam one with the bolt to apply pressure
or just use a big hammer
buy a magnetic tray and a long adjustable length magnet on a stick. looks like a radio aerial. good for getting stuff you dropped.
get a bit of light coloured lino or carpet for under the car when you work
drop anything just pull out the carpet to retrieve it
mole grips and a set of stilsons for rounding stuff off and snapping things.
and a nice big hammer
draper budget range do screwdrivers that have yellow handles for the kind you use to open cans of piant

oh yes latex gloves

I agree with Ivor on the tool side but I have to have good ones ,I use them every day ! there are too many metric sockets etc on sale but you have to cater for the masses and fastners nowerdays are metric ,there are only a few metric spanners etc that will fit A/F sizes unless other people have used the correct bolts etc on our cars you will probably find the odd metric bolt on them but they should be UNF/UNC manly UNC threads that means that you will need A/F spanners /sockets how many of you guys can tell what the bolt is just looking at the head or the thread ? I can but I have been doing it for years you should not find ANY whitworth or BSF bolts on our cars although up to 1/2 UNC and Whit are near as dammit the same but the head is bigger .

I like the Halfords stuff too . I bought some a few years ago, and the quality is excellent. Tricky to find the sockets in imperial sizes though.
Also like the Sealey sockets and accessories have lots of those in imperial sizes. 3/8 drive .
I get loads of fine quality 1/2" drive A/F sockets, and spanners, at boot fairs - they always seem to be in the neglected plastic crate of tools that no-one really whats . what a steal. A handfull for three quid. Whitworth too , but not really relevant for US cars.
If you're ever in the States, go to a Sears and get a set of those little 3/8 drive sockets which each have a UJ built in . Just brilliant. How did I ever manage without them . (Actually that's another thread isn't it ..)

its is indeed
it might look manly/rough-n-ready to have oily thumprints on "steven and the twins"
but you'll end up with having to have your now nobbly melon sized teticles removed and a withinn 3 months you'll be fat, placid, talking about interior design and a nice pair of breasts will appear.

I Like my 2 Metrinch stes, 3/8 drive for small stuff, and a 1/2 inch drive.
Fit both imperial and metric and drive on the walls so take the rounded nuts off.
Oh, and those Irwin bolt removers that Stu had at the Nats are the business, used them lots already. Terrific tool, even do bleed screws with them.
