Breakdown number 2 in 24hrs - Help needed on Calibra

Post by Dart Vader »

HELP

Vauxhall Calibra 2litre red top.

Drives fine for 100's of miles, runs a bit rough though, then just quits and stops. Won't start straight away, but will if left for 5 mins. Will then run for any number of miles until it does it again.

Been on a diagnostic machine and cam/crank sensors are ok, air mass meter is fine, in fact no electronic gremlins at all.

Working on a fuel delivery problem, have now..

Replaced fuel filter, fuel was cloudy but seemed to work ok after the change.....then stopped again

so. took out fuel tank this afternoon, fuel in it seems fine, no blockages at pick up point.

At whits end with the car, the missus needs it next week when I'm away so pressure is on.

Now working on possible

1. Fuel pump (external on my model), playing up
2. Fuel pressure regulator maybe sticky/bunged up
3. I have done something in a previous life to deserve this luck

Did Calibras or equivalent Cavaliers have this fault, any suggestions?

Anyone got a T&T cheap runaround for a few 100?

Had a garage mate who checked the crank sensor and it wasn't showing a fault code. Looking on some of calibra/cav website apparently it can still break down

If the management light comes on as the fault occurs there a fault in the management system. if checked out with a proper scanner it should have shown any stored faults.
I would first of all try another fuel pump relay :thumbright:
I would check terminals on your fuel pump, if OK replace it, early carlton use the same pump. The regs don't usually play up.

The ignition light comes on but no mngt fault light.

ClubCalibra.com (can't believe I typed that) have said the relay as well.

Just amazed it can be fine then not then fine then not again.

Its like the fuel just gets cut off to the engine

Hi one of our guys in the Mustang club just PM'd me with this if this is any help?...........

Hi Justin,

I'm not a member of the MMA but read it occasionally.

On this thread

http://www.moparuk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=21876

I had a similar problem that turned out to be the EGR valve.

Can you possibly post a suggestion of this for me.

Cheers
