Fancy drum is a good idea, bolt in sprag is essential, but not the be all and end all of the runaway clutch thang. If you are making a lot of power and hitting the slicks hard these 2 mods are defo, I'd say, in case you break part of the driveline from the front UJ back.

Pete,
Deep down in your heart, I am sure you already know the answer to this question.
Power has no friends & will always find the weakest link. Just dig deepr in those pockets of yours & upgrade your gearbox. As Kev said, Bolt in Sprag is a must, I would also put an aftermarket drum in the same category.
Speak to Dunc, he can give the most accuarate advice on this board related to 727's.

thanks mark,
figure it like this, most street strip racers have A a trans rebuild B a manual reverse v body C a deep sump kit, lets just say that lots £800.
then bad burnout or launch and you hurt the rear sprag next launch the high gear drum spins up way faster than it was designed for and explodes takin out your full transmission, maybe your headers, probably your floor pan and hopefully not your legs  but add it all up your in to some heavy $$$$$$$$$$, so installing a alluminium drum, or steel aftermarket drum takes the blowup out off the equation, the sprag can still break but your just in to tearing the box down again, not to much drama,
so a good baseline is
steel or ally drum, also the correct band to suit the drum material,
a billet rear servo assembly,
good make off friction and steel plates,
good make rear band,
decent manual v body,
bolt in sprag,
deep sump kit,
that will live with some good hp,
my challenger is a heavy bitch 940 hp a lot off torque and the above is whats in my trans it survives sound, shame about the engine

Well said Duncan!!!

This is the most dangerous part of a Drag racing Mopar!!!

Auto Trans failure is very seriuos stuff.

Detonation of a drum is lethal, ask anyone who has suffered it!

It can take your feet off, but if you don't wanna spend out on a bullet proof box, FIT BULLETPROOF SHIELDS!!!

If the box don't get you? The start line Marshalls will, when you dump 5 litres of hot oil on the start line. And then you have to hide in the Pits because all the Real racers want to know who spoilt their DAY!!!
