Headliner ribs, how many do I need?

Post by Anonymous »

Going through all my bits and pieces, found what I believe to be the struts/ribs for the headliner. No idea if they are all here? I have six.

Do I have enough?

if they are for your 69 charger you need 6 & 2 short ones for the rear

they are colour coded as they are different lengths & patterns ...

front closest to wind screen

1 tan
2 sublime
3 blue
4 pink
5 violet / lavender
6 bare metal , or black

painted end go on the passenger side

Also good. I plan to get as much information as possible before I tackle it as I am led to believe it is a frustrating job if you don't know what you're doing.

Have to fit sound deadening first.

best thing to do before you put the rods in the head liner is ..iron it ( on the back ) to remove the creases ! had to do mine 5 times .. as i had left it in the box for 4 years , long story  ) then after finding the middle of each rod & marking it , slid the rods in so the mark on the rod matches the centre line drawn on the back of the head liner . start from the back ie the the largest head liner bow .
attach the two retaining wires each side to stop it pulling forward , then work towards the front pulling it tight as you go & attaching it with tempory clamps at the side .... but only clamp it on the very edge , also cut about a inch & a bit of the white sleeve to expose metal bow so the material don't bunch up when fitting it in the clip in the roof , might need slightly more trimming as you go !.
once you do one side .... heat the liner up ( don't get it too hot !! ) a bit at i time with a hair dryer to streach it & remove any remaining wrinkles , pulling & clamping as you go. then do the last piece around the rear glass & sail panels .to make hole in the head lining for sunvisers , seat belt bolts & dome light ... use a soldering iron .
