'68 Charger Pitman Arm problem number 2.

Post by Gringo »

I ordered a new Pitman Arm for mine from PST. I managed to get the old one off using a crow bar and a trolley jack! New one doesn't fit. The splined hole has a smaller diameter to the one I've just taken off. There's probably a couple of millimetres in it. I've got a casting number off the old arm and it's 3402730N16266. I don't know whether the steering box has been swapped out at some time in the past. Does anyone know whether this casting number refers to a '68 Charger?

Cheers Pete. They didn't mention that when I ordered it. I'll get back on to them. Anyone one want a small spline Pitman Arm? Brand new... ;)

I can't find anyone who stocks the larger spline arm. PST and Year One both stock the smaller spline, but don't list a larger spline. Anyone got any suggestions? :?

The later B bodies 72 & up , used the larger spline PAS box , so you must have a later box on your's , PITA.

Firm Feel can supply you with the correct pitman arm.

The only ones I've seen at the US Shows is one made by CRANE, not the cam people, another supplier!
I spoke to the Main man, and he told me they were made by the Australians???
Most Steering boxes have a large casting date on the side, as in MONTH/YEAR.
I think all the pre 71's are the smaller type?
