Pete
They are refering to the B&M, Turbo Action J converter, used in the race A bodies and still widely used by lots of racers.

Mick , what's your thinking on the B&M convertors , are they on the same par as the dynamics?..............removing the Dynamic & fitting the B&M.

Depends on which B&M converter you are on about, there's a lot of good converter manufacters, to get the most out of a converter, you need to supply dyno sheets and full car spec, weight, rear gear ratio, tyre size, intended use etc.
I've just taken a Dynamic out of my car because it was too loose and put my old turbo action back in, they're both good converters but one works better in my car than the other.
I'm no authority, just learn by trial and error.

Exactly Mick , dynamic was too loose @ 3200 stall , apparently i should be running a 3500 stall for my combo , on the road it's a nightmare so fittin the 2800 B&M back in there.

My dynamic was 5500, my turbo action is around 4500 and much tighter.
If i'm not mistaked the optimum slip for a converter is 4%, up to around 8% is good though.

It's true, high stall convertors use a core from a small car application. I'm sure I read somewhere that the 9" race convertor core is Opel Kadett. We are only talking about the outer case, what's inside is totally different, so it's origins are not that important.
