New speedo drive don't work

Post by MilesnMiles »

Just fitted, brand new 39 tooth drive for 3.91 gears. Fited as per the book and I have no speedo reading.
I 've fitted two other drives in the past without probs, any clues?

Haven't looked as i was working at the trans end. Can't think why it should as its a simple swap that doesnt stress the cable as such. That said, each speedo drive i've fitted requires turning the locater in the tail shaft another 90 deg which meets some resistance.

Have you turned the speedo drive housing in the box to the correct position for the number of teeth on the drive? If you don't fit it correctly, it will either not engage on the output shaft or it will get chewed up. In either case the speedo won't work. Check that first.

Blue, definately turned to the right location. At bottom dead centre you can read the stamped numbers e.g 38-50 (or whatever, but correct for 39 teeth).
Strage beasts in that when fitted, there is no sense of 'location' or meshing if you see what i mean

Checked, refitted and correct and still not working. I suspect a broken cable. I can turn the speedo drive by hand in either direction. surely i should meet resisitance in at least one direction?
