Slow progress, but it's getting there. Rod clearance on the oil pick up boss and at the bottom of the bores are things you need to check with strokers, I could see I had enough so I didn't need to measure it. The big block Chevy rods that this kit uses are physically smaller on the big end and that helps a lot. I'm using a single line external oiling system so the old internal pick up port gets plugged.

Look good Blue, when do you think you'll have the motor ready to drop back in?

Dunno mate, I keep getting sidetracked....

Anyway's cams in, it's a Comp Cams custom flat tappet ground on 112 LSA, I was advised to install it at 108. I used a Rollmaster timing set and degree'd it in, came out at 109 so I left it at that as 1 degree either way really isn't worth correcting. Lifters are Howards EDM, which have a small hole in the face to directly oil the cam lobes, gives a solid cam a better change of survival in these days of low zinc oil.

Also removed the inner springs for cam break in. Springs are Isky 8005's. Heads were bolted on with ARP bolts, studs for the shafts and also for the valve covers. The valve covers won't fit over the studs so a bit of fettling will be needed. Finally finished off the oil pan, decelleration baffle added and a screen. Pan has a swinging pick up and I remembered to punch a hole in the screen for dipstick clearance. With 8 quarts in the pan the level is below the centre divider, well clear of the crank, so I'll not use a windage tray. The screen is to stop oil splashing back onto the crank, it fits into the pan with self tappers.

Cool, do you re-install the valve springs using a compressed air line to hold the valve in place? I would be pooing myself incase I dropped a collet down the oil way :help: Don't fancy that job in situ reaching over the fenders....

Mocked up the single line oiling system. Pump is a Melling hi volume with a CNC cover made by Eclectic Innovations, swinging pick up is a Milodon. I have also used a Milodon adjustable bypass to dial in the oil pressure. Thought I had the oil line routing sorted until I tried to fit the header, no chance. Bugger.

This thread is absolutely brilliant! :thumbright: :read2:

If there is one thread on the board that makes me want to rush to the garage and get cracking on the Barracuda engine build, it's this one. Blinding looking work as ever, Blue. I wish I could learn quicker... sadly my brain is much better at picking up crap stuff quickly than useful, interesting stuff. :(

Yea, a bit more hose and a couple of fittings ought to sort it. It's only time and money, and we've all got loads of both

Pete, I'll probably do the indian rope trick to refit the springs, space is a bit tight to get the air line in. I now have an on head spring compresser ready to do the job, I'll put up a picture of it later.

Got to agree fantastic thread this....helping me loads, your finding all the bugs for me Blue, Cheers :thumbright:
What headers are they TTI's
Are you going to use a crank scraper ?

Blue, Not teaching you to suck eggs here...
...cant you face the pump fitting downward and route the line the other side of the dipstick and rotate the pan fitting downward also, that would do it would nt it ? without more hose etc ??
and you could run a extended hose support off a pan rail bolt if needed ?
Or is it to close at the Pump too.
Just an idea :dontknow:

Its interesting how you deal with all the un-for seen things that appear when making a build of this type...
Great thread keep it coming, Blue..
