Kev,
We need to see that beauty in a car, not in some barn in the US ;)

You noticed that too huh :-k

At least it keeps the oil fresh. Personally I think the SB does what it was designed to do very well. It was never designed to beat a BB (which incidentally is probably why they designed the BB) but it was designed to live forever and drive your grandmas station wagon across America several times a year.

My 318 runs like a bag of nails, always has done. But it runs consistent and it always runs (providing something external doesn't undermine it). And I only gave it a quick clean up after 10 years of sitting in garden!

The Higher velocity flow ports do make the engine more amenable to road racing than drag racing though. A BB would suffer in anything other than a mid engine config in a sports car (for handling alone). The SB can be convinced to rev harder, but you are right that both the Ford and GM SB packages are better suited than the Mopar one.

A 318 that ran 12.4 in a ''71 Cuda.
A 340 in a '71 Duster
A 340 in a '70 AAR
A 340 in a '70 T/A.
A 318 in a '74 Dart.
A 360 in the Sox.

Not to mention the 318 Poly in Julie's '62 Dart.

I guess I learn the hard way.

I personally think it is an inhereently weaker design than a BB :-

Don't like the distributor arrangement.
Don't like the Oil pump arrangement.
Don't like the constraints on valve geometry.
Don't like the inlet design - not designed for quick cam changes.
Don't like ther timing chain/water pump set up.
Don't like the fact that it seems hard to keep oil in them.

IMHO a SBC does a much better job in a more compact package.

HOWEVER, I LOVE BB Chryslers :thumbright:

I await the hate mail.........
