lol  ... where's Al gone?

To save him typing it all again:

This may help any fellow Mopar owners with the tilt column as its the same column mechanism in the M, F, E and some B & C bodies when equipped with a tilt. (apparently!)

Its a simple case that the tilt mechanism secures the column at the base with a couple of big nuts. These nuts become loose with the strain of people hauling their fat butts out of the car by putting all their weight on the wheel. However its not quite as simple as removing the cover and tightening the nuts. Ma Mopar stuck with the turn signal switch on the floor operated by rods for years, and a column shift won't help either. its all got to come off to get at the nuts. With all the other stuff in the way it took a full day to do mine. However now its done not only do I have pin-sharp directional control of my car but the column shift is 100 times lighter to use and even the indicators work better. A wee spot of thread lock has hopefully prevented me suffering this again too soon!

It was Peter Cooper (he of the spares company) who told us where to look for the fault, rather than a certain other spares company who tried to sell me a new (used!) column to sort it.

Cheers

Alistair

Thank Alistair ;)

I'm sure it'd be a fail, especially if you get a funny (not haha) tester
