Running 2 out of 4 Butterflies, centre 2 are sealed

I have set the max TPS at idle to 5% on the Operating Parameter Config

Atual TPS on Butterflies is set to 4%

@ 1.5% TPS idle, motor was 2,000+ plus

@ 0% percent TPS Idle, situation would be equal or worse

Butter flies are fully closed on idle, approx 0.004"-0.006" clearance around blades

Well haven't touched for almost 3 weeks, thought a break away from it, would help & fresh start would help me think more clearly.

I played around again :banghead: with the hat / throttle blades yesterday and am convinced I can not get any better than they are currently set.

Started from a clean sheet & remapped the whole F/Inj system :shock: 40 cigarettes & 40 cups of Coffee later, now feel comfortable on that side.


Had a friend round today, so it made it easier to see what was happening. Noticed that the butterflies were being sucked open, due to the blower pressure. So we re made the spring mounting plate to change the spring ratio & will need to make something similar & permanent for the opposite side of the hat. As the inner shaft is affected by a torsional type twist.

Also had another air lock in the water system, which wasn't helping as the hot spots were given the F/Inj false information.

With the combination of all the above work the engine is now idling at around 800rpm :) I can't explain what a very happy bunny I am at the moment.

Just come in to watch some of the Grand Prix & some dinner, then back out in the garage with my cornflake box cardboard to make new spring return template.

Tues I am booked on the rolling road, so have a good baseline now & should be able I to further refine the motor some more & on the road in general. [-o<

Great stuff Mark, it's getting there....rolling road results should be interesting.

Whats my problems got to do with reliability, mine should be more reliable than had I gone with carb's.

Just to put the record straight, I have nothing against carb's & know a well set up carb will equal any F/Inj. Its just that the carb is not as good as handling all the various changing aspects without adjustments.


For me, It was just more of a steeper learning curve than what I was expecting.

The positives from this lesson is that I now have taught myself & I am no longer reliant on others. No I am not an expert either, but hope I will enhance these skills the more I play.

One of these curves, was getting my head around how a 572ci Blown engine, can pull 4,000+ rpm with ease, with an air gap between the 4 butterflies, which had a total surface area less than than 0.040" :shock:

Well done Mark for stayin with it , sounds so easy when you explain to others the problems you've had to deal with & the fixes you've made , the hard part is finding the problems to start with , hats off to yer.

Think i'll stick with the spray , leave all that techi FI alone. :shock: :shock: :help:

Yes mate, takes about 5 mins to explain what you have done, hard to explain the umpteen days & nights to get to that solution.

Its all very well having a Blown EFI Hemi, but not too many people to speak to that can help, well that's not strictly true..... but you get my drift ;)

Similar to you getting a handle on the Nitrous, its easy once you have found what to do, but bloody mind :scratch: boggling sometimes to get there
