68 charger power steering

Post by ANTON »

can anyone let me know if the power steering on my 68 charger should be a lite as it is.the steering wheel requires no effort at all to turn even when stationary(my 99 ford focus has heavier steering).if that is how it should be then fine. but if i have a problem let me know or if is is possible to stiffen it up.
thanks for you help anton

Hi,welcome to the madhouse. :thumbright:
Yes,they're light,as in not much feeling at all.
How wide a tyre are you running and what pressure?
You may be able to drop a pound or two and find a bit more firmness without upsetting the tyres/handling.

I'm running 235 on the front of my heavier C body,I found them best after experiment at 28psi. At 30psi it also tended to lock the front wheels braking in the wet.

Welcome to the club, All power steering is light as a feather. You could always upgrade to a firm feel steering box or switch to full manual steering, as long as you can handle parking the thing like :D

was notified on Friday that Firm Feel have dropped all Mopar power boxes except the stock ratio one

From what I can gather they now only do 2 boxes for Mopar, stock power and a manual box but not sure what ratio on this
