Buying Petrol in Oz.

Post by Kev »

The price of petrol in Oz fluctuates daily with the low prices being on "Terrific Tuesday" when you can also get deals on pizza, dvd hire etc. This is cos it's the day before pay day. That's easy then, queue up for your petrol on Tuesday. Wait! If you spend over $40 in certain stores (Kmart, Woolworths, Coles etc) you get a receipt that lets you have 4c off a litre at said store's co-partner servo (petrol station). We use Woolworths for the weekly shop so Caltex is the servo. There's more!!! If you then buy $5 of goods in the servo you get a further 4c off a litre!!!
Today (Wednesday morning usually has the same price fuel, but less queues) I went to the Caltex put 62.53l in the Falcon @ 94.9c per L. I then bought 2 x Gatorade 600ml, on offer for $5 for 2 instead of $4 each. So I now have -$2.50 for my Woolworths docket, plus -$2.50 for spending $5 (which was saving me $4). So $59.34 - $2.50 - $ 2.50 + $5 = $59.34.
What a load of malarkey!!!
What is frightening is the whole population is conditioned to this and queues can get pretty outrageous. I didn't come over here to queue, so I usually just get the petrol whenever, sod the $2.50 and the Gatorade!!

At least fuel is cheaper than Gatorade...

Its a mad place mate

the prices go up Thursday and Friday to screw everyone who wants to go away for the weekend and can't be arsed to work out which part of the game they need to play to get bugger all off.

and they switch to higher ethanol content petrol without telling you...Ok for some cars very bad for others designed to run on no more than a 16% blend.

isn't Caltex Texaco Chevrons's 3rd world brand :)

blatant profiteering.

check ya Barby gas as well

buy if from the big cylinder you get half a bleeding bottle on a cold day or when the tank is half empty..do they ever weigh your bottle? NO.... and its costs double what car LPG costs

make yourself a pipe and connector up

pull up at the pump leave the barby bottle in the boot and pretend you are filling the car.

banks do the same

cash point is more expensive to withdraw from than the counter in the branch and cash back in the shops costs more or less again. but it depends on the bank as to which are counted as part of you 4 monthly free withdrawals or whether what you are charged is a % of the withdrawal that is capped at $3 dependent on which charge works out the most.

try changing some foreign notes at a bank till...... here is 100USD please give me AUD based on your sale price on the wall, i find the rates appealing and it will be beneficial to my meager finances
No
why not
because you have no ID
you don't know me from adam anyway, i don't bank here, but your rates appeal to me please change my money.
need to see ID with a picture
will you record anything off the ID? Drivers licence number or passport number, my name may address?
No why would i do that??
then why do you need ID isn't the real me better than a 2 inch by 1 inch picture?

at which point i started laughing and left with " i can't stand bloody arrogant poms ringing in my ears"

the place is populated by nutcase hatstand bonkers people...the only solution is heavy drinking.

seen any blue yellow and pink triplicate assay books yet (usually next to the PC or terminal).

oh yes and you need to buy surge protectors for every electrical appliance you own and remember some cheaper surge protectors for the surge protectors as well.......and a special one for ya modem and ya phone....anyone selling snake oil i'll have a gallon of that as well

great country but slightly bonkers is a grave understatement

kept me amused
