Simon, I have been thinking about this comment all night and the more I think about it the more infuriating it sounds.
"the only time i do have a problem is when people say that its cruel to animals well yes there are a few places that should be shut down but on the most part they have a fairly good life and a quick death"
That must be the most inaccurate statement about meat production ever said. Where did you get that info?
DO NOT WATCH THESE VIDEOS IF YOU ARE OF A SENSITIVE NATURE OR ARE FOND OF ANIMALS -IN PARTICULAR HORSES
Have a look at the lives of horses on their way from Poland to Italy to be killed for meat and tell me that that is a fair way to treat a horse? As for a quick death...well if the horse is still alive by the time it gets there. One horse spent 5 days hanging upside down by a hoof trapped in the bars of the trailer. Live export is THE cruelest form of animal treatment.

What about the thousands of British sheep sent to Paris for Hal Al festivals? They have their throats cut while fully conscious with kitchen knives by people with absolutely no training.

In fact, watch any of these videos and tell me about how great the lives of these animals are and how quick and painlessly they die.

Anyway, without harping on too much more about the way meat is produced on such an industrial scale....do you think situations like this would arise if the demand was less

I hope you are all aware of this recall?
Anyway, this may not be the best place to discuss this and I am sorry for offending any meateaters, but meat industry is certainly pulling the wool over a lot of peoples eyes. I am not asking anyone to give up meat, just cut down a little...it will make a difference to you AND the environment.
And before you all go PMing the Mods saying some bloke is attacking your right to eat what you like, just re-read what I have written...eat LESS meat, I am not asking you to give it up completely. Listen to the message in the Mark Bittman video, he is NOT a veggie.
