torsion bar

I have to remove the torsion bars on my Roadrunner, I know they come out towards the rear, but they are well stuck. I have the complete front suspension on the K frame, all loose, ready to drop as a unit.
My question is: if I drop the K frame and pull it foreward under the body, would the torsion bar come out towards the front, or is the only way out to the rear

Have you took the retaining clips out at the rear of the torsion bars?

That would probably work. Bit hard to imagine without being there though.

You did remove the circlips from the back of the trans crossmember didn't you?

Normally, if you take the adjusters right out of the LCA, and the LCA piviot nut off, the bar should be fairly loose in the pivot end. So it sounds like you just need to clean and oil the trans x-member end (if you have removed the circlips).

You also need a good clamp on the bar so you can hit it back with a good sized hammer.

Bars will come out from the front , remove the circlips out the rear when refitting , don't forget the rubber boots when you finaly button it all up.

They have to be fitted through the rear when all else is in situ.

I have the correct removal tool.
Failing that, undo the strut rod, rear circlip, the lower CA stud, bottom shock absorber nut and bolt, and use a jemmy to lever the LCA forward - works every time

Thanks guys, yes, the clips are out, I did that 1st thing.
I also took all the tension off, as per workshop instructions.
I'll try and get something to attach to the bar and hit it, will spray a lot of oil on and leave it for the night. I am knackered, took the complete rear end out and most of the front today, that is enough, I feel my age!!!

just pull the bloody frame foreward the torsion bars will either come out with it or sta put in the chassis strap a piece off 3x2 against the edge off the k frame and beat Bananarama! out off it forewards, its gotta come off,

Socket on an extension and "tap" the bar out.

BE CAREFUL. I have seen some Mopars where the previous owners have welted the cross member with a big Birmingham screwdriver and flattened the metal that retain the circlip against the rest of the torsion bar mount. Not nice...

If you didn't make some sort of torsion bar removal tool to belt with a hammer then knocking them out to the rear was always going to be bloody difficult if not impossible.

Drop the "K", or at least remove the LCA if it is loose on the bar, then tap the bar from the rear forwards......

sorry I've not responded today, came down with a bit of flu, definitely overworked myself yesterday. Spent all day in bed. K frame is all loose, I'll follow your good advice in the week, when I feel a bit more human
