Not at all sure exactly what you are doing here.
Are you fitting a suregrip unit to your existing axle? This is the easiest to do.
Or are you swapping your ring and pinion from one pumpkin to another?
If you are doing the latter then no you can't just swap the pinion over. It has to be shimmed between the pinion head and bearing to create the correct depth of mesh. Not easy to do if you don't know what you are doing.
In either case you will need to set backlash so you will need a dial gauge.
Don't tell me you are trying to do things like this without a copy of the factory workshop manual?
