New Job needed!!

Post by TYREMAN »

I went in work today and i got Suspended

It was a tough week last week with all the Xmas Mail plus also i had the Flu to make it extra hard work, every day last week i worked over my time to get it finished.

Saturday i had a lot to do in the afternoon and it was a Pig of a day at work! i was supposed to finish at 11.15 am Saturday but i was still delivering at 11.45am and by that time i had had enough! so i posted what was left(about half an hours worth) into the post box.

So today i got suspended on full pay until i go to a hearing after Xmas.

It is a crime against the Queen!(i kid you not! :) ) its called delaying the Queens Mail! and is treated like treason etc so i could end up with a bad record for bugger all! :x

You may ask me "why did you, not just do it all for the sake of another half an hour over?" well I've been doing this for 17 years and enough was enough Saturday.

My union told me i have done nothing wrong as i was working in my own time! and its a stressful time of year, and they have proof people are been bullied etc and put under pressure to go over there time,so they told me to treat my time off as a free paid Holiday over Xmas :? and i will win my case :stressful:

The way i feel at the moment though is if i win? then I'm going to Quit anyway! as many of you know i have been planning to leave next year anyway so may as well go now.

I know the smart thing is not to quit! the Devil you know etc,the way things are at the moment ;) but don't forget i have no Kids or responsibility's, and i have not been happy for years at that place, and i would rather have less money and be happy ;) I've never been out of work for a day in my life ;) and I'm sure i will find something else even in today's climate,I've not fussy! I've even done cleaning in the past to pay the Bills (and yes that included the Poo houses!) :D

Form the first time in my life since School i have some time off over Xmas :thumbright: so i will make the most of it that's for sure. :pub:

Dave Moparnuterz don't panic!! i will still be bringing in the Falcon to your Body shop ;)

DON'T QUIT until you have another job. Otherwise you could find yourself out of work for a very long time. And that is NOT fun I can tell you.

I am sure you will be OK with the union behind you...... I was a Telegram boy when I left school, and I know that mucking around with the queens mail is frowned upon. At least you pot them in the post box, and did not chuck em!

:iagree: what Dave said ... don't quit until you have another job, it's easier to get another job when you still have one, any future employer would look on you more favorably if you're already in work than if you have been unemployed for a few months, and they would want to know why as well, good luck mate

also, if you quit it can hamper your union defence in some cases. See this happen, person feels stressed/bullied etc so leaves and then can not go for constructive dismissal case against employer.

Tony, it appears that you may have jeopardised 17 years good standing in the job, by sticking the remaining post in a post box...why didn't you just phone head office and ask for back up saying you were unwell?

You can still claim Constructive dismissal even if you resign.

It has always been an offense to interfere with the mail. Everyone knows that.

It was a stupid thing to do. But we are all guilty of doing stupid things from time to time. But don't follow that up by doing something even more stupid like making yourself unemployed unless you are VERY sure you are going to get the sack.

I feel sorry for the letter's

They get within 1/2 hour of getting to the letterbox and you post them back to the sorting office

Tony tease strikes again.

I guess it's in your favour that you did send them back and did not loose them in the nearest skip/canal or take them home and hide them in the loft like has been reported of other posty's in the past.

A Royal mail worker has just been done here for stealing loads of parcels and selling it all on ebay

We had one that got caught with a load of mail in his house.

It turned out he couldn't read and had been hiding the fact. He could only tell which street each letter needed to go by comparing the shape of the words printed on the letters to the shape of the words on the street signs.

Problem was all the hand addressed ones didn't make any sense to him. So he hid all the ones he couldn't work out back at his flat. I think there were hundreds.

The mail eventually got delivered months later. I got two christmas cards in the summer with a letter of apology from the Royal Mail.

I think many people felt a little sorry for the guy. But he got done in court for it all the same.

I have heard that the Royal Mail now allegedly holds the No1 spot for bullying, knocking the MOD down to second place I'd imagine

Doubt anything will happen to you, treat it as extra holiday but keep the union in the loop at every stage.

Don't pack it in just yet, hang tight for the time being, no work out in the cruel cold world at the moment. ;)

On the other side of the coin - as a mail order supplier I have had no end of annoyed phone calls about slow orders - IE first class mail taking 5/6 days to arrive

Little wonder if postmen are reposting em!

Not a personal attack Tony - just a point of view from the customers side

Dont posties get BIG tips this time of year which helps to offset the extra workload etc - or has that all gone by the wayside these days???
