Foam style gaskets

Post by ANTON »

Can anyone let me know how important the foam gaskets are that are on the rear axle and front brake plates on my b-body. If they are very important i'll have to make some and if they aren't i'll leave them out.
Or if any one know where to get them even better.

What is the gastet there for. It's between the brake plate and the axle housing and between the brake plate and front spindle. No oil and grease in those areas

Just to stop rattles and keep dirt out.

On disc brakes I never re-use the metal shield. No need for it at all.

If you want to make new foam gaskets, the nearest available material is the foam underlay for laminate floors,3 mm thick. Personally I find the foam traps water and causes rot,so,as Dave suggests. :thumbright:
