Front end teardown

Post by Stu »

Whilst we've got the engine out for the V8 transplant, need to replace the front end bushings. Before we get stuck in at the weekend and find we haven't got what we need, are there any "Mopar specific" tools we're going to need. (Not having done this before  )

TIA!

A press to replace the LCA and UCA bushes.

There are tips on the board on how to remove the torsion bars....

I would also recommend a first aid kit, a box of plasters and a tube of Savlon... ;)
The pump don’t work coz the vandals took the handles.

:D Looking forward to it already!

Think we have access to most things, the fella who owns the barn we store in is an automotive engineer. Just wondering if any of the service tools were Mopar/Yank specific? If so he's unlikely to have it as he's all old Brits. :?

"A" body size UCA ball joint remover/installer socket - they are pretty unique, and the Ball joints are screwed in to 125ft/lbs...

unbolt UCA And damper bolt and then drop k-frame with all attached and then the torsion bar will come out easily .If you look at my member car you will see the photos of mine I've just done all of that.I have a UCA ball joint socket if you need it.

The B/E ball joint is a different size to the A-body one.

Set light to top & bottom bushes/balljoint , makes light work on removal.

PS , don't set light to the underside of motor.

Happy burning.

Hey up, Budge. :thumbright: All looks good, just thought we'd take advantage of it being out the car to drop the bottom end and have a squint / clean the heads up a bit. 8-) Be nice to check the bore sizes/cam and find out exactly what we got too, just so's we know. Be interesting to see if it's stock or not. :read2:

Should be going in in the next few weeks, need to swap the K, do the front end bushings first. :help:

I'll give you a shout when it's in, Mate! :thumbright: Might even take a burble over if all seems well! 8-)

Its not a normal socket. It is a special tool. There are two sizes. I think this is the A-body one but not sure.

Cheers, Dave. I know it's not a socket, have access to splitters, but not sure if there's one that will fit until I can get chance to check with the bloke. Trying to find out if they are "sized" before I try all his and find that none of 'em fit! By then I won't have time to source one, you know what it's like.

He always works on old Brits, so unsure if anything would suit. :help:
