It's a bodge, Paul, and you know it ;) ;) ;)

I have had a brake flexi hose burst on me and I was VERY pleased to have a cable operated secondary brake.

Plus if you rely on putting it in park on a real steep hill....It can be nigh on impossible to move the gear lever on your return!

If you use a hydraulic handbrake, just use it for the MOT. Stick it in park and leave the brake off the rest of the time.

Can't be arsed reading the first page, but I always left the Taxi in Park, never touched the "handbrake". If you do your own lines you should be sure of the workmanship, nuff said!!

Kev- you didn't miss much ;)

Pete- what's my middle name? ;)

Thanks for the sensible advice chaps, much appreciated. Just to re-assure you- It ain't a daily driver, i'll be VERY aware of the limitations of both parking devices, no-one else will drive it and if i park it on a hill i'll use a brick ;)

(My old AMC Javelin had a highly technical mod to the Mk1 parking brake or 'parking brick'.... the Mk2 parking brake was a brick on a rope- just open the door and reel her in :thumbright: )
No-one will believe you...
