Charger weight for first MOT
I believe for the first MOT I will need to know the weight of my Charger.
What does it say on your log book??
My car is a 69 with 440 and auto transmission.
Not quite finished yet, but not far off!!

you do NOT need the weight for any car mot, but it will be just under 2 ton

For the first MoT,if the cars not been registered before they will want the weight for the brake test. Once on the MoT database everything will be there for the future. My Fury, although it fits, never goes on the rolling road.He always does a Tapley test along the road.

Each back brake is tested separately,so spinning the rollers on one side and hitting the brake would upset the diff. It's the same with permanent 4wd systems, spin up either end and overspeed the centre diff.

ok but isn’t that what the diff is supposed to do … compensate for the difference in speeds of the rear wheels when cornering??latil wrote:so spinning the rollers on one side and hitting the brake would upset the diff
I guess what you are saying is that on the brake test rollers the difference between 1 wheel rotating and the other stationary is ‘too much’ for an LSD … ??

Ignor all of this its so very very wrong i'm blushing
on an LSD car I think it depends if both sides are driven.
if the opposite side rollers is set to free wheel
LSD has nout to worry about
if both are driven the drive from the spinning side is tranfered into the diff centre when the side to be tested eventually stops
that just wears it out for no reason
4WD me know nothing
would expect it to be bad....cogs n springs flying out etc like the day you opened up ya clockwork mouse to see how it worked

The Greater Knapweed near the Mugwort by the Buckthorn tree is dying
Right
i described how to test an open diff car
exactly the oposite to what i should have said
relaised as soon as i left the office this afternoon
came over in a sweat
and been bustin to get back and say so since
apologies
its wrong....its right if you could test 1 brake at a time which of course you can't
James is right
1) i should just read all posts before fireing off i'll thought out answers between meetings.
2) should engage brain before hands
to test an LSD car both rollers need to run at the same speed and same torque so when brakes are applied its simulates as near as damn it a real braking scenario with minimal mis match between sides.
thus the diff unit only gets exposed to the same kind of imbalance as it would on uneven surafces or patchy areas where traction varies.
what i described will fry the cones or clutch packs because the undriven wheel will stop dead even oif the driven one does not
a sure grip equipped car had a sticker in the drivers door jam explaining this and possibly warnings about towing
what you need to do is find out if the MOT station has a suitable setup to do this
otherwise its open road testing with some kind of meter....
I'll PM you
