gearbox hang....
Oops.
Just headed out to the garage to resume the job in hand (gearbox removal). Decided to tidy garage first.
Engine is out of car, gearbox remains in place - next job is removal.
I pushed the car back to lay plastic on the floor forgetting that the gearbox was supported on a jack. Obviously it falls and hangs down.
Diagram below shows blue where gearbox normally sits, and red is what happened - it fell low.
Chassis x-member under gearbox still in place (perhaps this added support) but my question is am I likely to have damaged the shift linkage or anything ? Where would the weight have been taken ? Shall I just crack on and worry about it later....
Just a general Q really.
ta !

I put straps across the torsion bars to support the box when the motor is out so that you can still move the car. You could also use wood there or across the frame rails.
Its a case of double checking for damage, but the prop may have slowed its progress. Take the box out and check in the light of day when you have access around it.

I use a bit of timber or angle iron across inner wings and rope round the bellhousing.
I doubt you've done anything serious, possibly pulled the linkage a bit.The rear cross member mount will have slowed things enough to avoid a sharp fall.

Mind you, I am not a great fan of the standard rear gearbox mounting; they were improved in '70. I stick in a poly bush there where possibly - always on the race cars.
Check the bush over thoroughly if you are going to re-use it; that trip might not have helped things, either........

Hopefully its not damagd the linkage.
When removing the transmission make sure it is fully supported before removing the crossmember that supprts the trans.
I had a right job just trying to remove the 4 crossmember bolts!
Aso, as above replace the trans mount as amatter of course as it it worth the effort
