Well the "Heavy snow forecast for the North East" turned out to be rain. Washed all yesterdays snow away. 
The thing with Newcastle is the temperature is very much regulated by the North Sea. So in the high summer it does not get as hot here. But also it does not get as cold as the South which is more effected by the temp of the land mass of Europe.

even the underground was shut????!!!!???
and at work they were wondering round like it had just been announced that travel was some kind of new and fatal virus.
yup the car park was bad but after that clear roads by about lunchtime
arrrgh we'll all get stuck here and have to live on worms and dust.
yet another media panic about nout
this morning a bit of ice on the Paddington underpass and they closed that
Trafalgar square shut cos its tooooo dangerous.
next the Govt or met office will be telling me not to go out in the cold without my hat and gloves.
its a farce that just adds to the recession
gonnan hire me a nice big van and drive round with a big sign on it saying
GET TO WORK YOU LAZY BAASTARDS
bloody disgrace
when i was a lad etc etc etc
walked to school in my bare feet etc nout but bread and dripping.... brushed me teeth with soot i did.

It was only -4 C with a few inches of snow for Gods sake. Hardly "Arctic".
Arctic is more like -30C with five feet of snow.
here's a couple of ideas for starters ... put snow ploughs on buses, put snow ploughs on trains ... or am i just thinking a little bit too far outside the box ...

Its a bit of an Anti Climax here,it started to thaw last night and no extra snow,and today the low main roads seem fine to me,still plenty of the stuff not melted on the high roads but all in all not bad.
I like nothing better in the snow than finding a fresh Tire track and seeing if i can work out the tire make and size?

We had 18" last week. It stopped by the weekend but there is still over 12" left on the ground. Last night it started again and so far we have another 2-3". Could get messy later, the stuff that was already down had solidified in the 10F (-12C) temps we have, now the new stuff is making the old stuff slippery.
Got stuck in my 300' driveway trying to get to the road that had already been ploughed, learned from that lesson and got driveway ploughed too!
Luckily I have a rear drive car to take advantage of all the potential fun
Lets just hope the temp doesn't drop to -15F (-26C) like we had about 3 weeks ago, that was awful!

We don't really have enough snow to merit a snowmobile, people go crazy over here on that stuff; snowmobile for the winter, boat for the summer and an ATX for the rest of the time, I don't know where they get the money!Jeff wrote:Snowmobile James? Had some great times on those!

The water catchment pools are all full and frozen solid at this time of year, a few guys use snowmobiles on them like some sort of dirt track oval, I must admit it does look like fun.
It only snows 2 or 3 times a year here really, we are just outside the lake effect snow they get up in Chicago and Detroit, instead we get all the ice storms and occasional blasts of snow. I even gave up the idea of buying a plough for my F150 when I realized I would only use it twice a year, hardly seems worth it, just give the farmer 15 bucks and a case of beer to do it for me.
At least the bloody Mosquito's aren't around in the winter
Work on my cars has ground to a complete hault since it is actually 5F colder in my shop than outside. I have a steel walled pole barn and it is freezing in there! I need to organise some method of heat but it is almost useless without insulation.
