VooDoo dust is the holy grail mate! My fave flake was always Mirraflake by metalflake. This stuff is better!
I am keeping this Mopar....... SOLD!

So here it is, scuffed and taped out.... I am going to lay some patterning in the centre section, then it is ready for some candy apple.

OK, here it is with 6 coats of candy old gold.....
You may be able to make out some very strange designs I have come up with in the centre panel!

So, as an update..
strip
prep
mask
base coat
VooDoo flake
2 clear coats
prep
mask / tape out
design and layout strange designs in centre
6 candy coats
All water-based paints so far, apart from the clear of course.
Now can you see why it ain't as easy as it looks? Not even 1/2 way yet!

As candy is totally transparent, The flake can still be seen through all the layers.
Candy Apple paint is traditionally dye based. This makes it wonderfully transparent. Only problem with that is, It is not totally light-fast!
This is a new pigment based candy I am using, So it light-fast.
I am keeping this Mopar....... SOLD!
