torqueflite 727 condition

hi, how can i tell if my t727 trany in my 68 440 charger is in good condition?. the oil is a nice clear bright red, but on going to use it today, she was slugish to reverse whan first started- i had to rev the engine quite high(higher than usual) to get it to back out of the garage.
also after a good run of quite hard driving(warm back tyres -bf goodrich radials 275 60 15 and warm lovely day) i went to impress a couple of mates sitting in the back(as you do

) by doing a rolling burn out and the car hardly chirped the tyres, but pulled away fast.

the car has a posi in it but i would have thought that a 440 would light the tyres up easily in first gear??????

although the car pulls realy well(scarily!!) from say 40 to 100 mph.
so i am wondering if the trany is o.k. but not being able to drive someones car with a fresh t727 in it i cant tell so i just wondered if there is any way i can tell if it is good or needs rebuilding, or is there any external adjustment.

Dunc will advise ya I reckon, I wish I had your problem,my car refuses to hook in first and second ! same size tyres, different make, btw what size are you running up front?

Duncs the man to talk to but i had a similar problem on a 71 RR it started off as having to rev it a little higher than usual to get it to move in reverse,

Got a little worse then finally wouldn't move backwards at all ON the rollers at the mot station with a crowd watching, nigh on impossible to Bananarama! out of those rollers

Turns out the reverse band apply piston had broke, must have started out as a crack and got worse, Dunc talked me through the replacement, supplied me with another piston and the job was a good un.

IF i remember right the band was out of adjustment which meant the piston wasn't acting on the rod squarely and it may have been cocking in the bore??

A couple of mates in the back can help out a lot with traction, my 72 wouldn't easily spin the wheels with people in the back
dunno about the reverse thing, except I have a similar problem myself with the '69, but mine's also slipping like hell and theres black bits in the fluid so I'm pretty sure I've got a problem

I thought you weren't supposed to spin 'em up in 1st unless you had that low band apply malarky?

If the oil is red it sounds more likley to be rear band ajustment

235 70 15 up front, alex. is there adjustment anywhere externaly? or has the tranny got to be dropped?
how much is a recon trany- beefed up a little? if the road is slightly damp and the car/tyres is cold she breaks traction easily, do you think i may be expecting too muchfro her?
she has 3.55 gears i think so it would be harder to spin these?

i took the charger out for a spin again today, and the trany seemd fine, smoked the rears no problem. do the tranys performance deteriate noticably when they warm up?
