axle gaskets

hi could anyone tell me which gasket goes on first,im putting halfshafts back in theres a foam gasket & a tin one that looks like it squashes.its an 8 3/4.cheers steve.

the tin gasket goes on first and the foam gasket goes behind the drum brake back plates.

just to be clear tin gasket straight onto axle then put drum backing plate on then foam gasket then slide halfshaft in & bolt up? cheers steve

Tin then foam then brake back plate then half shaft.
the foam gasket is just to keep contaminants out of the brakes.
I didn't have new ones when i put my axle back together so on the advice of other member i left it out and use a small amount of gasket sealer instead.

cant help thinking its tin gasket(shim or wotever) onto axle then put drum backing plate on then foam gasket then slide shaft in,that way it would seal drum from grease or wotever getting in ,its prob simple but thrashin mi head.im not saying your wrong anton, sorry if it seems that way just dont want to take it all to bits again if i get it wrong.looked in manual cant find owt. steve

i have found it in the manual it is on page 3-15 under installation section 1-3. You are right it is tin brake plate foam half shaft.
Sorry about that i was just telling you how mine was when i worked on mine having looked it up now i see that you are right.
