green bearings 8 3/4
hi,just fitted a set of green non adjustable bearings onto halfshafts, now do i have to take the circlip springclip thingy wotever they call it off, then put the bearing retainer then the brake backing plate on then put the circlip thingy back on then fit halfshaft, tried to do it with backing plate on axle first but doesnt seem to let bearing go in far enough cos that springclip wont let it.sorry if this sounds double dutch.cheers steve

Are you are talking about the large circlip the goes around the outside of the bearing? If so, fit it to the bearing. Fit the brake backing plate first, then the halfshaft. The circlip sits on top of the backing plate, you normally get a gasket which takes up the circlip thickness, then the retaining plate bolts up flush. Hope that makes sense....

cheers blue, that does make sense cos if i would have done it my way i would have to pull brakes off if i ever wanted to take shafts out.just out of curiosity ive read on some other forums that you have to remove that thrust wotever from middle of diff if you use green bearings with a suregrip?some say you do some say you dont?
cheers steve

Just did this job the other Saturday on Turnips Greenfish Racing Barracuda.
The top-hat style thrust bush normally found each side of the centre of the Suregrip is indeed left off when using green bearings (roller bearings) as there is no longer any manual adjustment of the old-style taper halfshaft bearings required.
Careful not to tap the halfshaft home too hard or you'll damage the circlip. As said, it should just 'seat'.

I just brought a set of green bearing for my 8 3/4 axle but there is no circlip on mine. the bearing is pressed into a steel plate(with axle hole pattern in it) with a gasket and there is also a half shaft seal and the retaining collar in the kit. the bearing also has a rubber o-ring on it. Do i remove and discard all the old parts on the half shafts bearings, plates, adjuster and seals?? press green bearings on on shafts and reinstall.
Any help would be appreciated
