Not much so far....the usual requests for my rear windows from E49 owners with the wrong glass.... x1 so far

and a bit of chat about Matts car seen in the background of the picture (Nats 2005)
more interest in Matts because its magenta....:)

gotta be a bit careful about what i said in the letter had a falling out with the guy i got the car off so can't go back to him for history..

bent pinion, no oil in gearbox at all, holes in radiator blocked up with snapped off matches
mis matched VH and VJ brakes.
disconnected rear brakes (mastercylinder saftey switch seized)
under dash wring all done in bright red 2 core house cable.
3 keys none of which fitted any of the locks all the kind of stuff you get blinded to when you see the one you want

and then on top of that another bloke who kept catching up with me at shows telling me the car was a rebody. (and we don't know what his motivation was yet....me taking it to the UK could have been it)

so i had words with the guy that sold it to me...... and naturally Mr rebodys storys started to sound more likely and it kind of spolied that relationship

anyway we sorted that rebody rumour out by getting Steve Loffel (the tech guy from slick six packs magasine) to check it out and compare with his little black book of "RT chargers i have had a passing interest in"

he owns an orginal paint magenta 2bbl rt

he went to purchase the car cash in pocket in about 97 after spotting it in "the trading post" (like exchange and mart) and traveled to the back of beyond only to find it wasn't what was advertised.
he wanted an e37 and although the guy swore it was... steve knew what he was looking at checked the chassis number vin plate and motor and of course took notes, he's like that.. and has a book with over 100 chargers that he has looked at nicely catalogued in numerical order by model range (yes he is very into valiants

1 2barrel RT with body 439 which is an aircon RT...1 of 5 made
colour correct. no doors, 1 wing, correct engine, rusty rear 1/4s no front seats no wheels. SOA number hammered out it went on about dash horns etc i.e other RT specifics.

a savable orginal paint rt but not a sixpack

he assures me my car is that car. and his notes match

it was subequently purchased by the guy i bought if off...who may or may not have fallen for the Its an E37 story but got some doors a wing and some seats out of a VJ and got the lot sprayed. however as i found. the rear 1/4s were a tea bag of metal and filler and the SOA number has been hammered out chassis engine and VIN plate all match and the annoying mistake of e37 does appear to be chalked under the dash (aussie equivelent of build sheet)

since had this story confimed by 2 others via email (previously) who also saw the car resting in some kind of shed or under the back of a house sans wheels gently festering....and it had been there for 10-15 years

but all of this is word of mouth i did not get any written confirmation.

so i have my fingers crossed that either one of them gets in touch or indeed mr rebody has another rant

there is history but the car when mentioned tends to get

Ohhh its " the previous owners " car E37 innit hahahahahaahahah as they proceed to take the mick out of the previous owner and his current fleet of cars

doesn't help that he is/was a "new Australian" rather than general northern european stock or Itallian/greek (the usual owners of valiant chargers) i.e he takes a lot of stick that the locals think is good fun but always made me cringe

so yes

it was an attempt to get something solid regarding history that fills in the gaps regarding before and afters its stay in the shed its, subsequent purchase and restoration.

we may get there eventually

the man with the car in his shed may well have just been i'll informed. very few people had copies of the build numbers option list and delivery codes for these cars....they only got posted on the net in 2004 much to the "owners of the lists" annoyance....they had been charging people for the info.

the aussies are Numbers matching mad

I have a '72 Falcon with '73 subframe connectors, a '76 XC engine, a late sixties Top Loader, a '79 XC disk brake axle, XA auxilliary gauges, an XB steering column (with main beam on the stalk), XF front disks and callipers .... all the numbers match.

Just not my car .... :D ;)

Hi Tony,

Yes, it is Australian Muscle Car magazine.

There was a company in Australia that built Javelins in right hand drive from CKD kits sent from the US. They did their own rhd conversions. The company was called American Motors Industries.

http://www.australianjavelins.com/register/register.htm

(It is also worth pointing out that Karmann in Germany built Javelins as well for the European market.)

AMI also sold Ramblers and Matadors for Australia.

Dodge Rover , that Falcon you speak of was with an MMA member who posted it on here I believe. Sandy's car is a beautiful XA that was rebuilt in Oz and shipped here 2 -3 years ago.
Time for another pic Sandy!

I had various emails with the original seller of the Irish GT. It had some very interesting paperwork with it which I was promised copies of, but never heard back.

The car was scrap. The most valuable thing on it were the compliance plates.

I have written AMC correcting their text with the photos.

It wasn't imported to the UK in the 80's, it was one of the original code 7198 export cars, and, to boot, the most heavily optioned UK export car with 12 options, which is quite a lot, even in Australia.
