Anyone had a Crossfire?
Jan's changing jobs, and after 10 years of a company car, she now needs her own! She can use my Cossie, (for a little while), but she would like to get a Chrysler Crossfire Convertible. Has anyone on here had any dealings with one of these? What are they like? etc etc, Cheers.

We were thinking of the same, Steve; but a hardtop.
There was one for sale on the board recently, and I believe Adam has one; so some feedback via the board should be possible.
One observation is they seem to depreciate like a stone; which may make them attractive if you are going to hold onto it for quite a while.

I used to drive them a lot when I worked at a Chrysler dealer. Brand new ones and customer service pickups from 30 miles away
preferred driving the auto version , much more fun checking the kickdown worked ok
The rear spoiler pops up at fifty mph
. Only drove a vert once and didn't get a chance to get the hood down. Must be plenty of cheap one's out there now.

Tucked away in the for sale section. Now sold but looked good for the money.

Yep, Carolyn bought one new a couple of years ago, and is tickled to bits with it. Based on the old Merc SLK platform and running gear, as you no doubt know. Personally, I think the convertible ruins the 30's Art Deco styling - makes the arse look dumpy.
It has some strangely over-engineered bits, e.g. forged 18" and 19" alloys, but then some surprisingly cheap bits, e.g. the plastic "alloy" centre console. Neveretheless it's a cheap way to get a Merc SLK, in better looking sheet metal (IMHO).
Nothing at all has gone wrong with it (unlike my Mustang). Luggage space is surprisingly capacious, but limited by the size of the tiny hatch. Rear visibility is shockingly bad, but it's a dinky little car, so not difficult to park.
The 3.2 Merc V6 lacks a little grunt, but once it winds up it goes pretty well. The blown AMG motored SRT-6 version is much more lively - will run low 13's with ease. It handles very well indeed, but has a compliant comfy ride. Again, much better than my Mustang, which is very harsh. Some have criticised the steering box (not rack and pinion), but it feels pretty crisp to me.
As others have said, they don't hold their value, so there are bargains to be had. One thing to be aware of is the cost of the OEM Michelin Pilot Sport tyres. They give astonishing grip, but she was quoted £400 for a new one after an irrepairable puncture.
