Sad day,

Had Chester our 14 year old car put down today. He had serious liver cancer. Hadnt eaten or drunk for two days. He was all bones.
Hard to look at the pictures, as he wasnt exactly unhappy before he went, however he wasnt going to last too long unfortunately.

Yesterday we came back from a Southport Show with Robbo and his wife. Called in on a Classic car show at the Leyland museum Leyland on the way home. Just turned up at the car park and they let us in to the show. We were both in the Rams and although the car park was full of '70's Fords there were a few Yanks in the car park. Dave and Denise (Moparnutterz), Cuda Niel from the AACNW club and Tony Tyrman wes bringing the Torino CobraJet. :thumbright:

Then Tony turned up we had a chat and it was the first time I had seen his Torino in the flesh. Cool car, looks and sounds great!

While we were talking, I heard a growl and a scuffle, looked down to the bottom end of the car park and James my 7 yr old son was flat on his face and my dog Max was on top of a Yorkshire terrier, with two blokes trying to get him off! I ran as fast as I could down to them and tried to get him off. I put my fingers right in his mouth and treid to prize his jaws open but he was solid. By this time there were 3 poeple pulling on the Yorky and 2 of us trying to get Max off him. After 5 seconds or so (what seemed like much longer) Max relaxed his hold and let go. So I grabbed his chain to take him back to the truck, where he could do anymore harm. The other bloke had hold of his lead and tried to pull him from me, but I snatched him and told him he was my dog and walked back to the truck. The security bloke then followed me and told me that the dog had caused much distress and we would have to leave. O.k I said no problem I will make him safe in the truck and will apologise to the owner of the Yorkie for the disruption. The Lady that owned the Yorkie was very distressed with what she had seen and I could understand that.

After constant badgering of his Mother James wanted to yake Max's lead for a bit and so Sharon let him take him for a while (unbiknown to me) She told him only to take him up to the edge of the carpark on the grass to see if he was have a pee then bring him straighrt back. But he didnt he walked off down the car park like kids do. :Rolling Eyes:

When I was getting him in the truck another security bloke came up behind and again told us that we were not welcome at the show and we would have to leave. So I said o.k we're going now. I got in the truck and headed down the isle towards the exit passing the point where it happened and just stop and check out the Yorkie and see how he is. Before I got there I was stopped by a couple and told to wind the window down. "Your not getting away with this" the woman said sturnley "I want your phone number" "That dog should be wearing a muzzle dont you know your breaking the law? We are gonna sue there are laws to protect people form the likes of you " Then some pimpley faced spotty youth shouted out from behind her "Yeah you Bananarama! stupid Bananarama!" Then the guy churped up "Yeah and he bit me while I was trying to get him off so I'm sueing you aswell as the dog owner, we're gonna take you to the Bananarama! cleaner's mate!" By this time my heart was poundin' I was seeing red but I just calmly said "well we dont have pen and paper in the truck have you got something?" She went ,came back and handed the paper to Sharon. While she was writing out the number, the guy then said "If they give a false number, I think they know that couple over there with the Capri" and turned to me and said" You do dont you?" I just said to Sharon " Yeah he's right put a bogus number dow and no mate we dont know them with the Capri and how dare you assume we would give false contact details" She had nearly finished writing it out but changed the last 2 didits. She gave the peace of paper to the woman and then I added "please step back or I'm liable to run over you feet"! And the n calmly drove off the car park.

Spoke to Rob later he said the Yorkie was fine and was sat quitley showing no signs of serious injury. He also said that He saw James fall over first Max just sat down and then the Yorkie came up and strted snapping at him, So Max just lurched forward and grbbed the Yorkie. Sharon should never have let James loose with Max but she has learnt her lesson with that one and all in all, no harm done. But I will have to keep y eye on that bloody dog. :D

If the couple hadnt been so judgmental with us I would have apologised to the distressed lady, told her I did not condone what had happened and of course offer to pay for any vet treatment that was needed and still will. And I know how it looks, Bull mastive tareing a little toy dog to peaces infront of all those decant folk. And me in a dirty old Dodge pick up that hasnt even been washed. But Max is a good dog, and only did what he did because he was protecting James.

Oh well... Wont be welcome there again.

I don't think it is ever a good idea to have a child "controlling" a dog that is stronger than the child. Seen that happen too many times.

I got badly hurt as a kid when I had our dogs leash around my wrist. The bloody thing took off after a cat and dragged me along behind. I was just about able to keep up but the dog ran past a lamp post I couldn't avoid and BANG that was me in hospital with a massive wound to my forehead. I think I was only about 5 or 6 years old and far too small to be able to control the dog.

I cringe now every time I see young kids walking strong dogs.

Little yappy dogs are a pest though. A woman up the street from me never has her two West Highland Terriers on a leash and she has no control over them. Then she complains like hell because a big Husky that was on a leash bit one when it started yapping right in its face. I don't know what the hell she expected the Husky to do?

Agree 99% of the time its the yappy at fault. (I know my scared-of-her-own-shadow greyhound is positively harrassed by aggressive little yappies - she practically craps herself) - However, now that you know Max has this 'tendancy' you may want to consider a muzzle in public. In this day and age you are only one lunge away from a serious dangerous-dog-lawsuit (however unjustified you may feel that is).

For what its worth, I thought the worst part of that story was the fact that given time to consider, the considered reaction (and others) was "I'm gonna sue you". What ?? Whats that got to do with anything ? Daytime TV no-win-no-fee culture to blame... depressing reflection on our society.

Well I agree whole heartdly with you both. I have considered a muzzle for the dog and also considered taking him back to the Staff rescue. Our old dog Bonny never had a problem with other dogs but they are not all the same. I was told he was good with other dogs and he hasnt been. We cant let our older son bring his dog around because he will go for him. And he has tried to get out this morning and go for another dog. I know the lad would be upset but he will get over it. But I just dont want that kinda dog in our family.

If you remember John? i said i would like to see your Dog and Sharon called your lad to bring it back now to be fair to Sharon. Then about 30secs later it was at the other end of the Car park with the small Dog in its mouth

Only minor injury to all,so not the end of the world it lived! it will soon be forgotten.

Get a Muzzle! and some training before you give him back mate ;) i hope this works out, you have had enough bad luck recently without this as well.

I though you would get a Manslaughter charge, as the old woman looked like She could have had a heart attack! :D some of these owners love these horrible small loud Dogs more than family members.

One of my mates on the post killed one of them by giving it a boot when it tried to bite him.The owner complained and RM tried to sack him but he was only defending himself so he did not get any punishment.

I personally will stick with Cats,a lot less hassle and cooler than owning a Dog 8-) :D

Well Carole's friend has been over for a visit, she's now gone and has been replaced with this;
Mac, an 8 yr old rescue Staffy. He's a bit of a porker at the moment and needs to lose about a stone. We've had him a week now and he is already a lot more spritely than he was. He doesn't like cats, but ignores other dogs luckily, as he is pretty powerful. Carole is way happy!
